Reds Put A Period On 4-Game Stretch

The Glasgow Reds faced the Glendive Blue Devils in back-to-back double headers last week. For their first two games of the stretch, the Reds were in Glendive on June 28. The Blue Devils capitalized on their home-field advantage and defeated the Reds in both contests.

Glasgow 3, Glendive 7

Kasey Seyfert pitched the entire first game for the Reds, but was unable to claim the win. Seyfert allowed seven runs, walked three, and struck out three.

Glendive snagged an early lead with three runs in the first two innings. The Reds were unable to answer offensively until Brett Glaser recorded the only RBI of the game, bringing Bryce Legare home in the top of the third inning with a ground ball single. Glaser would also score a run in the third before the Blue Devils shut things down and sent Glasgow to the field.

The Reds struggled at the plate until the top of the fifth inning when Legare got on base with a single and eventually scored off a Blue Devils' error to tie the game 3-3. Unfortunately, Glendive answered back with a four-run streak to end the inning.

In the top of the sixth inning, Kevin McDonald reached first base with a line drive out to left field, but was forced out on the next play. The inning came to a close with no change in score. The Reds were unable to score in the top of the seventh inning, and despite five errors in the game, Glendive finished on top with a score of 7-3.

Glasgow 1, Glendive 9

Taking the loss for the Reds in the second game was Brett Glaser, who allowed nine runs, walked seven, and struck out four during nearly four complete innings on the mound.

The Blue Devils dominated offensively with nine runs off eight hits, while Glasgow could only muster one run in the fifth inning when Tyler Hersom scored on a steal of home. The Reds would take the loss with a score of 1-9.

Hoping to benefit from playing on their home turf, the Reds were set to face the Blue Devils Wednesday, June 29 for another double header.

Glasgow 3, Glendive 13

Alex Fransen took to the mound for the Reds in the first game, but couldn't get it done, taking the loss with nine runs allowed, four walks and striking out three.

In the Reds' first at bat of the game, Seyfert made it on base with a single to third. Chase Guttenberg earned a walk in his turn at the plate and advanced Seyfert to second.

Shane Sinclair got Seyfert into scoring position and loaded the bases with a line drive to left field, followed by a single RBI from Korbin Cole to bring in Seyfert for the run. Darrin Wersal earned a base when he was hit by a pitch and brought Guttenberg home for the second run of the inning. With a single RBI to left field, Blayne Diesen advanced the runners and brought in Sinclair for run number three.

Facing two outs, Legare stepped up to the plate and hit a grounder on the fourth pitch, but was unable to make it on base. The Reds did not score another run in the contest.

Glendive amped up their offense in the fifth and sixth innings, bringing in 10 more runs, and the game ended with the Blue Devils on top 13-3.

Offensively for the Reds, Seyfert was three for three at the plate with singles in the first, second, and sixth innings. Nik Herman saw some time on the mound, pitching the last inning for the Reds.

Glasgow 8, Glendive 4

The Reds fought hard to win the last game of the stretch against the Blue Devils.

Tyler Hersom did his work on the mound for the first five innings, allowing only three runs, striking out five, walking four and giving up three hits. McDonald took his turn as pitcher in the top of the sixth.

The Blue Devils claimed an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. It looked grim for the Reds until the bottom of the fourth inning, when they were able to answer another Blue Devil run with four of their own to take the lead 4-3. With Wersal and Glaser already on base, Legare grounded out to second, but brought Wersal in to score. Seyfert continued with the scoring streak when he stepped up to the plate, hitting a two-run double, bringing in Glaser and Jacob Meiers. Sinclair brought in the final run of the inning for the Reds when he singled to left field and sent Seyfert home.

Glasgow had another good offensive streak in the fifth inning, scoring four more runs and increasing their lead to 8-3. Glaser put himself into scoring position with a triple to center field. In his turn at the plate, Legare earned a walk, to put runners at the corners for the Reds, and eventually stole second base. With a single grounder to center, Meiers brought Glaser in for a run and advanced Legare to third.

With two consecutive errors, the Blue Devils opened the door for the Reds to score, and score they did. Legare scored on an error by the Blue Devil's shortstop, and a critical error by their center fielder brought Meiers in for a run and advanced Seyfert to third base.

Looking to change the dynamics of the game, Glendive opted for a change in pitchers. It was just what southpaw Fransen needed, as he hit a single RBI to center field and brought Seyfert in for the Reds' eighth run.

Glendive was able to bring in another run in the top of the sixth, but Glasgow's defense prevented them from scoring for the remainder of the game and the Reds prevailed with a final score of 8-4.

This week, the Reds will see more competition in Sidney and Williston.
