17th Annual Catfish Classic Hosts 80 Teams

If "Northeast Montana loves fishing" isn't one of the truest statements ever made, I don't know what is. The 17th Annual Catfish Classic hosted 80 teams of two for this year's tournament. Most of the teams consisted of area and Montana residents, with some coming to fish from as far away as Indiana. The teams converged on the Milk River for some fishin' in the dark on Saturday, June 5. After the midnight weigh-ins were all said and done, Glasgow natives Tyler and Ryan George claimed back-to-back titles, winning for the second year in a row. Their winning weight was 35.20 lbs, with 1,111.36 lbs of fish being caught by the total of the competitors. (Yes, I did the math.) According to event organizer Brenner Flaten, "This is the third time in Cat Classic history we have seen back-to-back champs." Rounding out the top three are Nate and Jerry Molstad (Havre and Glasgow) and Chad Dawson and Brady Burgess (Dickinson, N.D. and Glasgow). The Jumbo Whiskers Award (biggest catfish) goes to Tyler George at 10.43 lbs, while the Big Whiskers Award (second biggest) goes to Karl Krause of Glasgow at 8.91 lbs. The sixth recipient of the Aaron Chatten Memorial Award was Paul Monson. It is safe to say the community of Glasgow can't wait for an 18th year. Full results can be found inside the Courier.
