Scottie Softball On To State with Second-Place Finish at Divisionals

Tournament Called Due to Weather

Another spring sport fell victim to the weather when the Eastern B/C softball tournament was cut short on Saturday. The Scottie girls were playing their fifth game of the tournament against Columbus when a spring storm hit with wind, rain and hail. The game was called in the fourth inning, and the tournament was cancelled.

The Scotties faced Colstrip in their first game of the weekend and came away with the win after Tiana Johnson hit an RBI double in the eighth inning. Glasgow gained an early lead with seven runs in the first two innings, but Colstrip fought back and scored some runs of their own. Going into the seventh inning, the Scotties had the advantage with the score at 8-6. In the bottom of the inning, however, Colstrip brought in two runs and sent the contest into extra innings. After Johnson's game-winning hit, Colstrip was unable to score another run and the Scotties won the game 9-8. Johnson would finish the contest going 2-3 at bat, with a homerun and two total RBI's.

The winning pitcher Tyra Johnson was 3-4 at the plate and recorded three RBI's. On the mound, she finished with 12 strike-outs.

Khloe Krumwiede impressed when she went 2-4 at the plate with two RBI's and two home-runs – breaking the GHS record for home-runs in a season. Kiauna Barstad also had a good at-bat record, going 2-3. Lexi Nixdorf was behind the plate.

For their second game, the Scottie girls faced the tough Conrad team and stand-out pitcher Tristin Achenbach. Although Achenbach pitched a no-hitter against Glasgow, Tyra Johnson gave her a run for her money in a battle of pitchers and finished the game with a one-hitter. Nixdorf was behind the plate for the Scotties. Glasgow logged four errors in the game, and Conrad won the contest 1-0.

Glasgow would meet Great Falls Central in their next game, and would defeat the Mustangs in five innings with a final score of 14-2. The winning battery for the game was pitcher Tyra Johnson and catcher Ziggy Chamberlain.

Krumwiede had another great at-bat, going 1-2 and bringing in two runs with another record-breaking homerun hit – her tenth of the season. Tiana Johnson was 2-3 and brought in three runs, and Barstad went 2-2, recording one double and two RBI's. Nixdorf hit a triple in the game and an RBI, going 2-3 at the plate.

The Scotties faced off against Huntley Project in their fourth game. Scoring eight runs off nine hits, Glasgow won the game 8-7 after six-and-a-half innings. At the plate, Krumwiede was 2-4 with 2 RBI's, Abbi Kolstad was 1-3 with an RBI, Tyra Johnson was 2-4 with one RBI, Tasha Chamberlain went 1-2, and Barstad went 2-4. Tyra Johnson again was the winning pitcher, with Z. Chamberlain behind the plate.

In their final game of the weekend against Columbus, the Scotties would win 6-1 after playing less than four innings due to weather. Krumwiede brought in another two RBI's, going 1-3, Kennedy Schmidt, Tyra Johnson and Tasha Chamberlain also were 1-3 with Schmidt bringing in one run and Chamberlain hitting a triple. Tiana Johnson, Barstad and Z. Chamberlain were all 1-2, with Johnson hitting a three-run homer and Barstad earning a double with her hit. Tyra Johnson was on the mound, with Z. Chamberlain catching.

The Scotties will enter the State tournament in Kalispell as the number two seed. They will face the West three seed Florence at 2 p.m. on Thursday.
