Marcellena A. Frueh

Marcellna A. Frueh, (nee Wehri) 88, passed away on Monday, May 2, 2016, at her home in Glasgow, Mont. Cremation has taken place and a private family burial will occur at a later date. She will be buried at the Haymarsh Cemetery in North Dakota, alongside her parents, siblings and many friends.

She was born to W.F. and Marcellena (Potts) Wehri on Oct. 15, 1927, in Haymarsh (Glen Ullin), N.D. She was one of 11 children and the youngest of four girls.

She attended gradeschool in the one-room rural school house in Haymarsh and high school at the Sacred Heart Academy in Fargo, N.D., graduating in 1945. She then attended the Presentation School of Nursing in Aberdeen, S.D., and graduated as a registered nurse in 1952. She received her anesthesia training at St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth, Minn., graduating as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist on Jan. 2, 1958.

On Aug. 13, 1970, she married Edward A. Frueh and they moved to Glasgow, intending to stay one year.

She was hired by the Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital as the director of nursing services. Her first endeavor was getting the hospital accredited. Fortunately, she had just finished helping with an accreditation for a hospital in North Dakota.

She worked tirelessly with the nursing staff to accomplish this goal. Not long after the accreditation was awarded, the anesthetist left and the hospital was in need of a new one. She had the credentials and the experience and accepted the position. She worked as the sole anesthetist at FMDH for 22 years. She was on call 24/7 for these 22 years.

She and Ed adopted their six children and for many years kept their home and hearts open as foster parents for children in need of shelter for the night or for months at a time.

Survivors include Edward, her husband of 45 years; their six children, Jim Frueh of Glasgow, Bobbi Jean Kirby and her husband, Michael, of Hershey, Neb., Anthony Frueh and his wife, Sandra, of Pueblo, Colo, Ann Kulczyk and her husband, John, of Glasgow, Beth Jeide of Bismarck, N.D., and Byron Frueh and his wife, Robyn, of Stanley, N.D .; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Cletus Wehri; one sister, Bernice Wehri; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Wehri, all of Glen Ullin; and Marie Wehri of Miles City, a brother and sister-in-lawffff Ted and Wilhelmina Frueh and numerousnieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers or visitation, Ed and the family ask that you send a donation to a food bank or mission soup kitchen that feeds the homeless and hungry, especially the children.
