Lady Scotties Lose to Malta, Defeat Wolves

Girls Head Into Districts as #2 Seed

Glasgow had a few tough games to finish out their regular season. Traveling to Malta Thursday night, the Lady Scotties faced Malta for the second time this season and recorded their second loss to the rival M-Ettes.

Glasgow could not compete with the height and quickness of the M-Ettes, who shut down the Scotties offensively and defensively.

With 28 turnovers in the game and a dismal 32 percent success at the free-throw line, the Lady Scotties failed to make an impression against the undefeated M-Ettes.

Leading the Scotties in scoring was Tyra Johnson with 9. Adding to the score were Khloe Krumwiede 1, Abbi Kolstad 5, Demi Aune 2, Leinie Hughes 4, and Jordan Kulczyk 4.

For Malta, the top scorer was junior Sophia Stiles with 24 points. Also contributing were Marley Manoukian 3, Hailey Nicholson 5, Jada Nicholson 11, Adrianna Bibeau 4, Mary Kalal 2, and Eva Harms 2.

Looking to redeem themselves after Thursday's game, Glasgow traveled to Wolf Point to take on the Lady Wolves. Wolf Point was looking for redemption of their own after losing to Glasgow earlier in the season.

Starting for the Wolves were Brenna Kurokawa, Shelby Hanks, Mahala Shawl, Keelia Brock and Camrynn Parker.

Glasgow starters were Krumwiede, Kolstad, Kulczyk, Hughes and Johnson.

Shawl, top scorer for the Wolves, helped her team gain an early lead over Glasgow, scoring 7 of their 12 first-quarter points. Meanwhile, Glasgow was only able to answer with 8 points of their own.

The Scotties gained some ground in the second quarter and thanks to some success at the free-throw line, were able to tie the game at 21 before heading to the locker room at the half.

Both teams returned to the hardwood with renewed determination and the score fluctuated all the way to the nail-biting end of the game. The Scotties claimed the third quarter, again with success at the charity stripe, and a shot from downtown by Kolstad.

The final quarter of the game was highlighted by turnovers, animated coaches, cheering fans and determined athletes. Glasgow's Johnson earned a trip to the charity stripe and dropped one in to stretch the Scottie's slight lead to three points.

With possession of the ball now in their favor, the Lady Wolves looked to tie the game with a three-pointer from Hanks.

Hanks' shot made it in the net, but not before she was called for walking on the court. With less than four seconds left on the clock and possession of the ball going to the Lady Scotties, the game was all but over.

When the buzzer sounded, Glasgow came away with a nice win and the number two seed going into districts.

Leading the scoring for Glasgow were Krumwiede and Johnson – both with 11. Also contributing were Kolstad and Hughes with 6, Kulczyk 9, and coming off the bench, Nixdorf with 2. The Lady Scotties were 20 for 29 at the line (69 percent), with Johnson going 5 for 5.

In addition to Shawl's 13 points, Kurokawa recorded 11, Hanks 5, and coming off the bench were Kateri Rush 5, and Gillian Medicine Cloud 8. The Lady Wolves went 10 for 22 at the line (45 percent). The Lady Scotties finished their regular season with a conference record of 6-2 and overall record of 13-5.
