U19 Girls Ice Out the Coyotes in Final Home Game

The U19 Lady Ice Dawgs finished their regular season with a shut-out against the Williston Coyotes on Saturday.

Most of the action during the game was on the half of the ice the Coyotes were tending. The puck didn't make it in the vicinity of senior goalie Autumn Gault very often. When it did, she denied the goal without effort.

In the first period of the game, Glasgow scored four goals. With her first of four game goals, Kennedy Schmidt sent the first puck between the pipes with an assist from senior Josey Uphaus. Just a little over a minute later, Schmidt passed the puck to Krista Hentges, who in turn sent it past the Coyote's goaltender.

Moments later, Maddy Uphaus found the back of the net with an assist from Amy Fuhrmann.

To finish the period, J. Uphaus scored with an assist from senior skater Alex Simensen.

Overall, the first period was pretty clean with the only penalty going to Glasgow for a weak high-sticking call.

In the second period, the Lady Ice Dawgs continued their scoring streak with three more goals scored. To start off, J. Uphaus scored off of an assist from Simensen for a repeat of the final goal in the first.

Williston began to show their frustration by dishing out some roughing, checking, hooking, and slashing, and in a matter of minutes, had racked up four penalties. Meanwhile, the Lady Ice Dawgs continued to out-skate and out-score their opponent.

Baylie Chappell had a hand in the next two goals of the period with an assist first to Schmidt, then another to Madison Knodel. When the Zamboni hit the ice between the second and third periods, Glasgow was leading 7-0.

The third period of the game was much the same-except for one thing. When they hit the ice, the U19 girls gathered in a circle near their net. Schmidt was the last one out to join them and was surprised when an extra goalie emerged from the cluster of white jerseys with a request for a prom date.

If the smile and hug were any indication, the answer was yes.

Giving her teammates something to smile about, Schmidt knocked in the puck for an unassisted goal to start the third period, and followed that with another goal assisted by senior Jaycee Wixson. To put a period on the shut-out, Wixson hit the back of the net assisted by J. Uphaus and Heidi Moon.

Gault finished the game with 9 saves, and the Lady Ice Dawgs won the game 10-0.

The U19 girls have a little bit of time to rest before heading to the MAHA State Tournament in Bozeman Feb. 19-21, followed by the NDAHA State Tournament in Jamestown, N.D. Mar. 4-6.
