Lady Scotties Score Two Wins vs Nashua and Harlem Record Extends to 2-0 in Conference; 6-2 Overall

Fans of the Glasgow Scotties and the Nashua Porcupines filed into Scottie Gymnasium Friday night for a few non-conference games.

The evening began with the varsity Lady Scotties taking on the varsity Lady Porcupines. The Scotties came away with a 59-29 win against the young team from Nashua, but not without a few hiccups along the way. Most notably, junior Jordan Kulczyk was forced to leave the game after suffering a minor head laceration during a collision with Nashua sophomore Ziggy Chamberlain.

The Scotties were also cursed with a high number of fouls throughout the game and recorded 12 of their 25 total in the first half. Fortunately for Glasgow, Nashua was consistently unable to take advantage of the free throws they earned.

By the end of the first half, Glasgow was leading the game 28-14.

In the third quarter of the game, the Porcupines outscored the Scotties, but not enough to overtake them on the scoreboard. Nashua's Chamberlain and Anika Peters both recorded three-pointers in the period, as did Scottie senior Abbi Kolstad.

In the final quarter of the game, the Lady Scotties let loose with their offense, scoring 21 points and increasing their lead. Kulczyk also returned to the game in the fourth with a steri-strip and her undeniable energy.

The Glasgow girls, however, continued to be called for a number of fouls and lost their top scorer, Kolstad, to the five foul limit. Nashua's Taylor Laumeyer also had to make her way to the bench with five fouls under her belt in the fourth quarter.

Near the end of the fourth quarter, Nashua brought their starters off the floor and sent in their bench to finish the game. For the most part, Glasgow opted to maintain their original lineup and the Lady Porcupines were unable to muster enough offense to shake the Scotties' defense.

Scoring for Glasgow: Khloe Krumwiede, 11; Abbi Kolstad, 22; Lexi Nixdorf, 6; Jordan Kulczyk, 2; Leinie Hughes, 6; Tyra Johnson, 10; Ashtyn Myrick, 1. Glasgow finished the game with 25 fouls and 53 percent at the free throw line.

Scoring for Nashua: Taylor Laumeyer, 4; Z. Chamberlain, 5; Anika Peters, 14; Cordelia Nickels, 4; T. Chamberlain, 2. Nashua finished with 17 fouls and 46 percent at the free throw line.

Following the win against the class C Porcupines, Glasgow matched up against Harlem for a conference game on Saturday.

It was a typical start-off-slow kind of game for the Lady Scotties and they had to fight back against fatigue and the Lady Cats three-point game in order to win the contest. In addition, there was obvious frustration with the officiating throughout the evening.

The Scotties began the contest on a positive note, winning possession of the ball off the jump. It didn't take long for Harlem to make a statement, though, as they scored the first bucket of the game with a three-point shot from Mari Ereaux. It took almost a full three minutes for Glasgow to answer back with a basket of their own scored by senior Abbi Kolstad. At the end of the first quarter, Harlem was leading the game 16-11, and it was apparent the Scotties and their fans were unhappy with the referees' performance. Heading into the locker room at the half, the Lady Scotties had a two point lead and a technical foul in the books.

Although the girls displayed their typical solid defense throughout the game, by the end of the third quarter Glasgow was still struggling to gain some momentum with their offense.

In the fourth quarter, several things seemed to come together for the Scotties. The girls were able to sharpen their defense without drawing many fouls. In turn, Glasgow managed to rattle Harlem's defense, forcing a number of fouls and earning several tries at the charity stripe. It also seemed that it was Harlem's turn to be frustrated with the referees as the Lady Cats received the majority of the whistles in the second half.

Abbi Kolstad again led the scoring for the team with 20 points in her column. Junior Leinie Hughes earned herself a double-double with 13 points scored and 11 rebounds. Also scoring for the Lady Scotties were: Khloe Krumwiede, 8; Kulczyk, 10, and Tyra Johnson, 6. Glasgow shot 58 percent at the free throw line.

The girls did a good job of keeping their turnovers to a minimum against Harlem, with only 10 total recorded in the game.

Top scorer for the Lady Cats was Ereaux with 16 points. Twelve of her total points were 3-pointers. Also contributing for Harlem were: Autumn Little Plume, 4; Valene Talks Different, 2; Skylee Dirden, 9; Autumn Eagleman, 2; Anita Bentley, 2; Brooke LeValdo, 11 (two 3-pointers), and Jazzamyn Benson, 3 (a 3-point shot). Fouling out of the game were Ereaux and LeValdo. Harlem shot 30 percent at the free throw line.

The Scotties will now focus their attention on preparing for the upcoming games against Malta and Wolf Point.
