Wrestlers Pin Down 26 Wins in 3 Days

Reyling Finishes Second in CMR

The Scottie wrestlers were in Ft. Benton and Great Falls for three days of competitive wrestling this past weekend.

Glasgow came away from the Ft. Benton mixer with a record of 12-8 overall. Finishing at 2-0 were Gabe Hallock, Oden Hallock, and Cody King.

The invitational at CMR is a tough one, with teams from all over the state participating. With a strong showing from several wrestlers, Glasgow placed 20 out of the 44 teams there and placed ahead of some of the higher ranked B/C teams.

Five Scottie wrestlers saw the end of the competition by the end of day one: Gabe Hallock (103) 2-2; Mitchell Overvold (126) 0-2; Alex Hallock (152) 0-2; Trevor Overvold (182) 0-2; and Jaden Hughes (205)1-2.

Four wrestlers advanced to the second day of competition. Oden Hallock (120) picked up his second loss for a record of 1-2 for the two day event. Mick Reyling (138) and Cody King (145) both finished with a record of 3-2 on their second day. "Oden had a great weekend and is getting where he needs to be," said Coach Jory Casterline, "and Mick wrestled tough and hard the whole weekend."

"Cody was one match away from placing," added Casterline. "Two weeks ago, we had a kid beat up on us pretty bad and he won with a huge score. This week, Cody came away with a two point match against the same kid. That just shows how much we are improving."

Matt Reyling (113) was undefeated going into the semi-final round, but was unable to maintain his winning streak. He was pinned by Jon Conklin from Missoula Big Sky to finish second in his weight class. "Matt didn't end up where we wanted him to be, obviously," said Casterline, "but he had a great weekend and is wrestling right where he needs to be."

Overall, Casterline was "really, really happy with the weekend" and the progress the boys are making. Still out with injuries are Tony Kaiser, Kasey Seyfert and Shane Sinclair. The three would have likely made an impact this past weekend, but Casterline is still unsure of when they will return to competition. "I don't want to rush things," he said. "I don't want any of them back until they are 100 percent and that won't be until January, at least. I feel good about where we are at, though."

Casterline also sent some boys to wrestle in a JV tournament in Great Falls. Capturing first place in that tournament were Gabe Hallock, Alex Hallock, and Trevor Overvold. Finishing third, Blaine Myrick, and fourth, Terrick Sanders. "We also had Darrin Wersal, Mitchell Overvold, and Jaden Hughes wrestling. They didn't place in that tournament, but they did pick up some wins there and in Ft. Benton," explained Casterline.

Senior night for the Scottie wrestlers was held Tuesday, Dec. 22 at GHS. The Scottie wrestlers will take a break from competition until Jan 2.
