Trio of Games Earns Trio of Hat Tricks for the U19 Lady Dawgs

The U14 girls and the U19 girls headed across the border this past weekend for a busy two days on the ice.

The U19 girls have a roster heavy with solid experienced players. Each skater seemingly has a hand in the success of the game, and it shows. The girls started their trio of games in Watford City, N.D., and came away with a 9-2 win. Leading the scoring for Glasgow was GHS senior, Josey Uphaus with a hat trick and two assists.

That same afternoon, the girls loaded up and headed to Crosby, N.D. According to head coach, Ken Schmidt, the girls were pretty worn out by the time they arrived, but fought hard nonetheless. At the end of three periods, the score was tied, which forced a ten minute overtime period. Neither team managed to score in the extra period so the game ended in a tie of 3-3. “It’s always a physical game when we play Crosby,” said Schmidt. “The good thing is, we’ve got some girls that can hold their own against them. Both teams came away with some walking wounded,” he added. Scoring for the Lady Dawgs were Alex Simensen with two goals and Kennedy Schmidt with one.

The girls played their final game of the weekend in Williston, N.D. They dominated the game and shut down the Coyotes with a final score of 10-0. Scoring hat tricks were Kennedy Schmidt and Madison Knodel.

Senior goalie, Autumn Gault, stopped 63 goals throughout the weekend and put another shutout in the books with her performance against Williston.

“The girls are getting better each and every game,” said Schmidt. “They have a pretty good handle on how they are supposed to play, they just have to implement it.”

The U19 girls are scheduled to play at home this weekend against Hazen. Game time is 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec 12.

The U14 girls also headed east to play against Watford City, Crosby, and Williston. Although their skills matched up better against these teams than the teams they played earlier in November, they weren’t able to come away with a win. “We have a pretty young team,” said head coach Paul Provencher. “The average age of our girls is eleven and they’re skating against 14 year-olds.”

Provencher has nothing but praise for the girls, saying they work very well as a team and he expects they will snag a win soon. In their first game against the Crosby Comets, the Ice Dawgs fell with a score of 5-0. “Crosby is a hard-skating team,” said Provencher. “They use their bodies a lot up there in Crosby, if you know what I mean.”

The girls fared better in their next game against the Watford City Oilers with the game ending in a tie of 3-3.

For their third game of the weekend, the girls traveled to Williston and took on the Coyotes. Glasgow managed to spare themselves a shutout with one goal, but Williston outscored them and the game ended with a score of 8-1.

The U14 girls are headed back to Williston this weekend to play the Coyotes in a hockey double header.
