Scotties Romp Through 2B District Tournament

To Host The Northern B Divisional Tournament Nov. 5-7

Hosting the District Volleyball Tournament comes with some perks: home-cooked meals, less missed school and familiar beds.

But this year the biggest advantage has to be hometown support. Throughout the entire season and now into play-offs, the Glasgow fans have been loud and proud. Their efforts have carried considerable weight in the hearts of the Scottie girls who have periodically been dismissed due to their lack of size but who have fought tirelessly to prove that it's the size of the heart that really matters.

On Friday, the Scotties started off matched up with the Poplar Indians, a team they had beaten twice during conference play but who can leave opponents spinning with their tough serving. An impressive 23 aces for Glasgow, plus an even distribution of sets/kills fueled the girls to a nearly flawless finish.

In less than an hour, GHS secured the win: 25-13, 25-16, 25-9.

Next up for the Scotties was Malta.

Even though GHS led the conference series 2-0, nobody took the match lightly, both teams well aware that tourney time is a whole new animal.

Aggressive serving (15 aces) and diverse offense (28 kills) from at least four determined Scotties quieted the much taller M'ettes and diffused their huge blocking potential.

Stakes were high but GHS came out on top (25-19, 21-25, 25-12, 25-13) and earned a trip to the championship match the following day.

Once again it was Glasgow vs Malta for the championship on Saturday afternoon. Strings of powerful serves, clever shot selection and relentless defense rang through loud and clear for the girls. At the conclusion of a four set match in which GHS racked up 30 kills, 26 assists, 22 aces, 24 digs and 7 blocks, your Glasgow Scotties took home the District 2B championship trophy.

Once again the student section exploded with pride and tore into the school song in true Scottie fashion.

As happens in a rare year, Glasgow is also hosting the Northern B Divisional Tournament, set to begin on Thursday at 10:00 a.m., featuring Glasgow vs Conrad.
