Walker Allen, Ellis McKean, and Merlin McKean glided to top-ten finishes, all of the Scotties' top five males finished in the varsity race's top twelve, and Glasgow stormed by 14 teams to claim first prize in Sept. 12's Malta Invitational. The squad's closest competitor, Havre, finished with 81 points - more than double Glasgow's 39.

"It went how we wanted it to go," said Merlin McKean.

Allen's time of 17:35 gave him second place. The older McKean, Ellis, followed him ten seconds later in 5th, beating nine-minute-younger twin Merlin, the ninth-place finisher, by 19 seconds.

The female Scotties raced to second out of a twelve-team field, edging Malta by six points and falling shy of Winnett/Melstone by 16.

Emily and Julia Kolstad finished 13-14, the former breaking the tape four seconds ahead of her older sister. Brinlie Nielsen came fifteenth. Alex Simensen (18th) and Morgan Guttenberg (20th) rounded out the Glasgow top five.

"We were happy with how the race turned out, both for the boys and the girls," said the elder Kolstad, while noting there to be, as ever, room for improvement.

Coach Rod Karst believes there to be no reason why the entirety of the girls' team cannot finish in under 23:00. Only the Kolstad sisters (22:43; 22:47) met that benchmark on Saturday - though none of the seven clocked a time more than a minute over that goal.

In the Junior Varsity boys' race, none of the Scotties' seven runners finished outside the top 13. The team's two JV girls' runners, Alaina Sallee and Kaylee King, finished seventh and tenth, respectively.

A busy week sees discrete factions of the Glasgow squad traveling to Frazer (Thursday, Sept. 17) and Sidney (Friday, Sept. 18).

"Both courses are very hilly," said McKean, who believes he, along with the rest of the varsity boys and girls, will take on Frazer's iteration of the standard 3-mile gauntlet. "We'll probably do some hill training this week to prepare, but you never know. Coach Karst likes to keep us on our toes."
