Volleyball Battles, Falls in Choteau

Team Goes 5-7 in Two-Day Tournament

In a nutshell, the GHS volleyball team had a fantastic tournament over in Choteau this past weekend. This tournament is a great opener because each team is guaranteed 12 matches in two days, often against highly competitive western teams who are perennial state favorites.

Outsized by far, the Scotties showed no fear and no sign of being the underdog. It was a total team effort - what the front row couldn't stop was dug up by the back row. Savvy setting and clever shot selection also helped seal the deal repeatedly.

We didn't take stats, but I'm sure our ace:miss serving ratio was definitely on the positive side. The girls were hitting the zones we gave them and using our serve as more of an offensive weapon than we've done in the past.

The Scotties traveled with a full squad of 12 varsity players and everyone saw court time, some coming out of their comfort zone to fill in as needed, showing diversity and confidence, succeeding many times.

One thing about this team, they're not willing to settle for playing a good, close game. They're very driven to fight to the end for the win. I couldn't be more proud of them. The girls are a close-knit unit, very energetic and compatible and it shows on and off the court. I feel so fortunate to guide and push this talented group, see how much more I can get out of them in the next few months.

Varsity travels to Chinook for another tournament this weekend but you can catch the Junior Varsity in action this Thursday at 5 p.m. vs. Lustre in Scottie Gymnasium.
