Glasgow Girls' Volleyball Bounds Towards Season

Team Heads to Choteau Invitational on Friday

Prior to the football team's hour-long intersquad scrimmage on Scottie Field, the Glasgow High girls' volleyball team hosted its own Red & White Day in the school's gymnasium.

A dense crowd filled the bleachers to watch the girls kick off their season; they chatted amongst themselves, occasionally nodding in approval at each well-timed set and hard spike as the young women darted through a succession of drills.

The squad graduated four seniors, and this year invites five new faces into the fold.

"This is a great opportunity to showcase the girls," said coach Lori Dailey over the squeak of tennis shoes and the blaring music, which over the 45 minutes ranged from Katy Perry to Ozzy Osbourne. "It's a chance for them to show all the hard work they've put in."

The team muscled its way through two-a-day practices in the week leading up to Red & White Saturday. Its players, however, welcome the toil, and, far from showing signs of exhaustion, wax ebullient about their upcoming season.

"We get along really well together," said junior Khloe Krumwiede. Tegan Fossum, Jazmine Foster-Shaw, and Kiauna Barstad, also juniors, smiled in agreement.

"We really gel together as a team," added Foster-Shaw.

The quartet holds high expectations of themselves and their performance on the court; coach Dailey lauds their collective dedication. "This is a super hard working bunch of girls - a very determined group."

As the Scottie fight song echoed off the white walls of the cavernous arena, the sentiments of all present, from fans to athletes to coaches, came clear - let's get it started.

"It's exciting," said Dailey. "We're ready for whatever comes."

The team opens its season at the Choteau Invitational on Friday.
