Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Melanie Kaye Solberg

Melanie Kaye (Cornwell) Solberg, 50, a resident of Cut Bank, was born Aug. 13, 1964, and passed on Friday, July 10, 2015, after a long battle with cancer.

Services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Cut Bank. A second memorial will be held in Glasgow in mid-August, time and date to be announced.

She was born to Paul and Gwen (Rogers) Cornwell of Glasgow where she grew up. She graduated from Glasgow in 1982 and spent most of her adult life in the Shelby and Cut Bank communities. She married Howie Solberg in 1983, and they had three children. After many years of marriage, they divorced, and she later met Mike Loring of Cut Bank, with whom she spent the rest of her life.

She was a rancher at heart, even during the times of her life when she wasn't working on a ranch. She loved animals and was often called by the neighbors if they needed a veterinarian and the vet was unavailable (sometimes she was even called first). She had a great love of horses and was around them all her life, including many years of training race horses. She made friends anywhere she went and will be missed greatly. She was also a talented craftsman and seamstress.

Survivors include children, Tamara Kaye Thompson, Curtis Lyle Solberg and his wife, Stephanie, and Jessica Elaine Solberg (Brett Peterson); grandchildren, Hadley and Harper Thompson; and a child of Jessica Solberg is expected any day; parents Paul and Gwen (Rogers) Cornwell; one sister, Carla Tihista and her husband, Doug; one brother, Bob Cornwell and his wife, Crystal; nieces and nephews, Jeremy and his wife, Mary Kate, Jana, and Jake Tihista, Conner and Colter Cornwell, and many extended nieces and nephews; her first husband, Howie Solberg; Partner Mike Loring and his family: Francy Loring, daughter Katelin Conway and her husband, Nolan, their daughters, Addison and Deni Conway, and son Jace Loring.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitted Funeral Chapel in Cut Bank. Please visit Melanie's online memorial and leave a message of condolence for the family at http://www.whittedfuneralchapel.com.
