Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Teenager Survives Gunshot to Head

Tragedy struck about 13 miles north of Frazer on Lustre Road on Sunday, May 24. Roosevelt County received a 911 call around 6 a.m. from a 16-year-old girl who said she had been shot in the head and her father had shot himself.

Raymond Rahn had been struggling as his wife battled cancer. Valley County Sheriff Glen Meier said that Roosevelt County contacted Valley County after sending officers to the location. The sheriff and two other deputies responded to the scene.

The victim and Rahn were transported to Wolf Point for medical treatment. Rahn passed away on the way to the hospital, but the young girl survived and was flown to Billings. Her mother was not in the residence at the time. The mother is receiving treatment at a medical facility.

Meier said that they are still investigating the incident, and there are a lot of unanswered questions on why this happened. He said when the young girl is feeling better they’ll try to delve into some of those questions.
