Guns N Hoses Finds Its Cure

Hockey Team Wins Benefit Game For Northeast Montana Relay For Life

The annual Skate for a Cure hockey game was also this year's kickoff for Relay for Life. The Guns N Hoses came to the match looking to claim the trophy that the novice Ice Dawgs had secured the year before.

Guns N Hoses showed their determination and started the scoring quickly. Shane Rice scored of an assist from Alex Estevez. The team would take the early lead and hold it for the period.

Fans would soon witness a grueling one-on-one battle – the type of competition never before seen on the ice at the Valley Event Center – when Brandon Brunelle and Travis Austin squared off for Sumo Hockey.

Decked out in heavy sumo suits, the entertainment would ensue. Brunelle started the scoring, with Austin answering. The brawl really began with some checking combat. There was checking from behind, checking into the boards and fighting.

Referee Mitch Griebel had to drag them apart so the game could continue. Brunelle and Austin ended the grueling game in a tie, much to the fans delight.

Guns N Hoses would take a 2-point lead in the second period as Estevez scored on Rice's assist.

With the Ice Dawgs needing to get on the board, Carin Barnett put one in off an assist from Jenny Robley. The period ended with the score 2-1

Then the Mites and Termites took to the ice for their showcase. Their skills were evident at their young ages.

During intermission, the duck toss was another great competition. Hundreds of ducks were tossed toward the center dot, hoping to be the closest, but only one could win. After close inspection, it was youngster JP Cornwell who had the victorious toss and would take home the bucks.

With only one period left of play, the game got a little chippy. Neither side was backing down.

Ice Dawg Kristin Wilkowski tied up Hubbard on the faceoff dot and Barnett swooped in, grabbed the puck and put it in the net.

GNH's Tyler Malnaa scored off of a well-placed assist by Kent Hubbard to sneak it past the defense and goalie.

Hubbard would add another pointn giving the Guns N Hoses the 4-2 lead and win.

The GNH players were thrilled to take home the trophy in this year's battle.
