Derek John Leckie

Derek John Leckie, 43, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2015, at his home in West Sacramento, Calif.

A celebration of life and memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 28, at Russ Monroe's Funeral Home, 7960 Winding Way, Fair Oaks, CA 95628, followed by a reception on the patio at Brooksfields Restaurant at 11135 Folsom Blvd., in Rancho Cordova, Calif.

He was born on Jan. 24, 1972, to John Leckie and Crystal Anderson in Glasgow, Mont. He was the beloved husband to Keahi Leckie. They shared 14 years together, including seven years of marriage.

He worked in the construction industry, mainly in northern California. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing golf and creating and participating in theatrical events. He was innovative and creative in designing prosthetic makeup, costumes and machines to create special effects. He valued his mechanical abilities and was frequently called upon to help others. He loved cats, especially his beloved cat "Booger." He was a brave and gentle soul who loved people and will be missed by all.

Survivors include one brother, Duane Leckie; a stepfather, Ray Anderson and stepmother, Brenda Leckie; one stepbrother, Tom Leckie; one niece Christina Carrier; two nephews, Joseph Carrier-Leckie and Dakota Weidner; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Happy Tails Pet Sanctuary and Rescue at 6001 Folsom Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95819.
