Downtown Planners Looking For Feedback

Picturing what you want downtown to look like might differ from what your neighbor wants. Getting an idea together that will fit the entire community is a challenging task, but Matthew Rohrback of Land Solutions, the company that won the bid on the downtown revitalization plan for Glasgow, said that so far that process has been fairly smooth.

They met with the planning board and discussed what's in store for the plan. Their first step has already started to take shape, assessing the needs of the community through interviews and public input. They've interviewed several people around the community who have given valuable information on what's already getting done and how the community might want to see their downtown. He said they're looking at the issues, the assets and trying to find the opportunities for revitalization to take place.

“There's a lot happening in Glasgow right now; this is happening at the right time for the project,” Rohrback said. “”We're trying to help tailor strategies to fit Glasgow.”

He said that by reviewing some background information they've been trying to determine the strengths and weaknesses. They will then look for solutions.

But a lot of their feedback has come from organizations like Two Rivers Economic Growth, the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce and city officials. Now they want to hear from the residents of Glasgow on what they can identify as needs for the downtown area.

A website is ready for people to hop online and take a survey. Rohrback said that if you go to the main page at http://www.planglasgow.com, there's a link to the survey that will only take a few minutes. He said they'll also be looking to provide paper copies at the city office at the Civic Center and possibly at the Glasgow City-County Library.

“You guys already have a great downtown, so we're pretty confident this will be a huge success,” Rohrbach said.

They currently hope to have a draft ready by late May and a plan to be finalized for adoption in July.

That plan will highlight some strategies and talk about implementing those strategies to help revitalize the downtown area.
