Raiders Beat Poplar, Dodson, Tied For First In 3C

The Hinsdale Raider boys hosted the Poplar Indians last Friday and came away with another win They then beat Dodson, 71-33, to improve to 4-0 and 8-1 in District 3C.

They are tied with Frazer for first in the conference and slotted at No. 6 in the MaxPreps Class C state rankings.

In the JV game against Poplar, the Raiders lost 31-22 but they did well with just five healthy players suited up for the game. Logan McColly went a perfect 6 of 6 from the free throw line. He has a textbook shot from the charity stripe. Austin Leatherberry took down 7 rebounds and had 5 blocked shots and Wrangler Jones added a couple long range 3s. John McColly scored a deuce and had 2 ORBs. Sean Hyan-Kyung scored on a 12-foot floater that brought the crowd to their feet. He also brought down a couple rebounds.

If there is one thing the varsity must work on before tournament time is their ball control. Twenty-one turnovers in one game will not win many tournament contests.

However, this was a monster game for the Raiders, whipping the Indians 70 to 35. It took Poplar until the 5:20 second mark of the third quarter to get their score into double figures because of Hinsdale's smothering defense.

Lukas Johnson got his first assist of the game when he hit Wyatt Pattison in the paint for the games' first score and it was off to the candy store for the Raiders from that point on. The half-time score was Hinsdale 35 and Poplar 7.

Dallas Capdeville, on his way to his first triple double (22 pernts, 16 rebounds and 10 assists) stole an Indian inbound pass under the Raiders bucket and put it up and in and drew the foul. He nailed the freebie. Brett Johnson played his usual tenacious defense getting 5 steals. He scored the team's only three pointer of the evening and ended with 10 pernts.

Kyle Albus fought his way through three defenders to score a PB, and a couple possessions later grabbed a defensive rebound, passed quickly to Dallas who spotted Wyatt making his way post haste to the other end of the court and led him perfectly. Wyatt grabbed the pass and dished off to Brett for another PB (Bucket in the Paint).

Poplar tried a full court press to begin the third but soon found it didn't work, so they went back to working half court. Seems that didn't work well for them either.

Dallas hauled in a rebound and took it coast to coast and laid it up softly against the window and down through the nylon, Lukas scored another PB, Wyatt faked to the outside, spun 180 degrees, took 1 step and scored a deuce.

And that pretty much ended the game because the wheezle blew and the zebras went home.

On Saturday the Hinsdale boys traveled to Dodson for a conference match with the Coyotes. I didn't go, but I can tell you with all certainty ... the Raiders won. I'm told that Dallas Capdeville executed two slam dunks, one was over a Dodson defender.

That's it for now folks. Thanks for listening.
