Arthur R. St. Germaine Sr.

Arthur Ray St. Germaine Sr. (Tatanka Iyankahan) "Running Buffalo," 88, died peacefully from natural causes on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Wolf Point, Mont.

He was born on May 13, 1926, in Wolf Point, to Frank and Theresa St. Germaine. He attended schools in Wolf Point.

He enlisted into the United States Army Air Force on July 18, 1944. He received an honorable discharge July 19, 1946.

He married Elizabeth Cantrell and to this union one child was born (Artis). He later met Donna Marie Beauchamp, and from this union they had six children, Roger, Debra, Carolyn, Teresa, Paulette and Art Jr.

After moving to Glasgow, he worked for the railroad and briefly as a ranch hand. It was then he began working in the masonry construction, working numerous construction projects such as Ft. Peck Dam, schools, churches, hospitals and government facilities throughout Montana. He retired from the construction business in 1989 as a business partner with his son, Roger.

He loved to jig dance and was an avid pool player. He loved watching rodeos and was a bronc rider himself in his younger days, as well as an amateur boxer.

He was an inspiration to his grandchildren as he encouraged them to put forth their best efforts in all their endeavors in life. He enjoyed giving oral history to his many grandchildren about hard-earned life lessons and what it takes to succeed in life. He was well known by the locals as a fun-loving, flirtatious guy and will be greatly missed. There will never be another like Art.

He is preceded in death by one daughter, Carolyn; one son, Roger St. Germaine; seven brothers, Francis, Edward, Tom, Joseph, Ely, Ralph and Alfred; five sisters, Marion, Emma, Mary, Clara and Josephine; four grandsons, Mike Laudato, Gator Robinson, Dakota St. Germaine and Thomas St. Germaine.

Survivors include one brother, Albert St. Germaine, and his wife, Sharon, of Custer, S.D.; children, Artis Robinson and her husband, Gary, Debra Hamilton and Teresa St. Germaine, all of Wolf Point, Paulette St. Germaine and Art St. Germaine Jr. and his wife, Veronica, all of Billings; and numerous nieces and nephews; 24 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Bill Sugg, Dusty Black, Carl Wallette, Joe "Beezer" Low Dog, David St. Germaine, Kevin Azure and Honorary Pallbearers were all his grandchildren.

A vigil service was recited Monday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m. and funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 16, at 10 a.m., all at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Wolf Point. Interment was in the King Cemetery in Wolf Point,

Bell Mortuary of Glasgow was in charge of arrangements.
