Daniel L. Jensen

Daniel L. Jensen, 83, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2014, at the Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital in Glasgow, Mont.

He was born on June 23, 1931, on the family farm near Grenora, N.D., to Jens C. and Selma (Thoeny) Jensen, the 10th of 11 children. His mother died when he was 5 years old and he lived with various aunts and uncles, attending schools in Thoeny, Grenora and Seattle, Wash.

He began working at a very young age for a construction company and other jobs until returning to Hinsdale around 1949 to work for his brother Frank's earthmoving construction business.

He married Francine VandeWiele of Hindale on Aug. 12, 1951, in Glasgow, and they had four children while making their home Hinsdale: Dean and his wife, Terrie, of Glasgow, Paul and his wife, Dorothy, of Hinsdale, Carter and his wife, Kristi, of Flaxville, and Kristine and her husband, Tim, of Spokane, Wash.

He started his own construction business in 1969, which he operated until his retirement on Dec. 3, 2014. He was very civic minded, serving on the Lutheran Church board; the local fire department, and the school board from the beginning to end of the present Hinsdale School's construction.

He had a lifelong interest in flying, earning his private pilot license in 1976 and owning several airplanes. His passion for flying lasted his whole life. The Super Cub was special and remained his favorite mode of transportation.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Wilda (Bert) Osen, and Ruth (Lester) Johnson; and seven brothers, Gene (Joy), Frank (Alma), Keith, Donald (Louella), West (Donna), Marlin and Burril.

Survivors include his wife, Francine, of Hinsdale; four children; 27 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Jack, and his wife, Marilyn, of Malta; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held SunDec. 7 at the American Legion Hall in Hinsdale, followed by interment in the Hillview Cemetery in Hinsdale.

Bell Mortuary of Glasgow was in charge of arrangements.
