Gobblers Scholarship Honors Barb Marsh

All high school seniors in Valley County are eligible to apply for a substantial college scholarship that will be awarded in February by the Hi-Line Gobblers chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation.

The scholarship winner will be announced at the Gobblers’ 9th annual fundraising banquet Feb. 21 at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church parish hall.

The scholarship is awarded in memory of Barb Marsh, a longtime supporter of both the Turkey Federation and local youth. Marsh died unexpectedly last January. To memorialize her commitment to the NWTF, her partner, Joe Younkin, sponsored a special rifle that was auctioned at last year’s banquet. Proceeds from that commemorative rifle, purchased by Norm Sillerud, are being distributed to eligible high school students this year.

For details about eligibility and other details on the scholarship, students are encouraged to visit with career counselors at high schools in Glasgow, Nashua, Frazer, Hinsdale, Opheim, and Lustre.

Younkin has donated another commemorative firearm to the Hi-Line Gobblers’ 2015 banquet that will fund 2016 scholarships, and has pledged to sponsor the scholarships every year. Plan to attend the Feb. 21 banquet to bid on the special scholarship gun and to recognize the winner of the 2015 Barb Marsh Memorial Scholarship.

Call Scott Billingsley at 263-7161 or Jenn Jackson at 263-7339 for information about both the banquet and the scholarship.
