So Much To Do

This seems to be another week for a this and that column.

For the past several months we've been attending Nashua volleyball games and the JAM basketball games as our granddaughter plays volleyball and we have two grandsons playing basketball.

The time all these athletes have spent in practice was quite evident in their games. And I was impressed by the team work and sportsmanship displayed.

A sports expert I'm not, but I feel that in a couple of years, the boys' JAM basketball team is going to be a tough team to go up against.

Congratulations to the Nashua volleyball team on their district win. I'm thinking that next year these young ladies will not only win district but divisional as well. They have the desire and heart to accomplish these goals.

Last Sunday, I was at a card party held at the Nashua Senior Citizen Center. Everyone who came for the afternoon to play pinochle and whist had a lot of fun. It's good to see something that always brought community members together once again starting up. A card party is scheduled for the third Sunday of every month at the center and is open to the public.

After it had stopped snowing last week, I saw children running through the snow and playing in it. It brought back memories of my childhood years when all of the kids in my neighborhood headed to a farm just outside town to go sledding. The people who owned the farm would always have fresh baked cookies and hot chocolate waiting for us when we tired of tramping up and down the hills.

There's been a picture showing up on my Facebook page almost every day about not shopping on Thanksgiving Day so that everyone can spend that day with their families. I happen to agree with this idea. In my opinion, holidays are becoming much too commercialized. Neither do I like how Thanksgiving seems to have been shoved into a corner in favor of advertising for Christmas gifts.

Several weeks ago, I attended an art show. The amount of talent displayed was outstanding. Visiting with the artists about their work was interesting and enlightening.

One last thought. I've heard it said from time to time that there is nothing to do in this area. That statement is so wrong. There is school sports, art and craft shows, bazaars, hockey, school programs, dances, Fort Peck Fine Arts Council events, and so much more.

My week has been a good one. Hope yours has been, too.
