Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Brett Robert Norman

Brett Robert Norman, 17, died from a vehicle accident east of Nashua, Mont., on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014.

He was born into our family on May 5, 1997, to Robert and Penny Norman, in Salem Ore. We were so happy for a third son and Mama especially delighted in his chubby little self.

As a child, he was full of life. He loved his binkie. He had a hearty, contagious laugh. He loved to snuggle, especially with his daddy. He was always ready to go along on the next adventure with his dad, and brothers Mitchell and Grant. He was rarely left behind.

We have had the privilege of seeing him change into a young man, establishing for himself, what standards he was going to live by, what goals he was shooting for and had broken these things down into step-sized pieces. Motivated by his love for his life, he was making his life what he wanted it to be.

Some of the core values that he chose for himself were to be reliable, loyal, honest, adventurous, fit and pure.

"Pops," as Brett called him, enjoyed the fun communication during the week, especially the Friday morning wake-up texts to let him know the weekend is almost here. His dad appreciated Brett and his willingness to fill in for him while he was away at work.

With his younger siblings he enjoyed the freedom to be goofy with them and included them in fun adventures. When he came home after work they greeted him with, "Brett! Come see the boat I'm making!," or "Hey, Brett, I made peanut butter cookies and saved you some," or if he was leaving, he would be followed around by siblings asking, "Can I ride along with you? Please? Oh, please?"

An example of the fun he liked to have with them is when he recently asked his sister, Hannah, if she would go air up the tires on the bulldozer and he laughed and laughed AND LAUGHED when she got half way there and realized a bulldozer doesn't have tires.

With his older brothers, Mitchell and Grant, he was "The Third Amigo." They shared countless adventures as the threesome. From the early days of riding bikes, fishing, hunting, leatherwork, trapping, playing music, riding horse, trailing cows, branding, to recently getting all three of their pickups stuck at the same time.

Brett especially enjoyed sneaking into the kitchen and giving Mama a scare just to hear her scream. To get a reaction out of her was his delight and the house rang with his laughter.

This year Brett met Christean and they developed a very special and meaningful relationship. She was a bright spot in his life. They were planning a future together. She was quickly welcomed as part of the family.

Now we find ourselves having to say goodbye. We are grateful for the time we had with such a great young man.

Survivors include his parents, Robert and Penny Norman; three brothers, Mitchell, Grant and Joshua Norman; two sisters, Hannah and Mary Emma Norman; and his grandparents, Richard and Sandra Norman of Rickreall, Ore., and Vern and Jean Ratliff of Monmouth, Ore.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 10 a.m. at the Evangelical Church in Glasgow. Interment was on the family farm near Lustre.

Bell Mortuary of Glasgow was in charge of arrangements.
