Porkies Representing County At Divisionals

Nashua Takes On Richey-Lambert In Opener At Glasgow

The Lady Porcupines of Nashua, Valley County's sole survivor in Class C volleyball, take a short drive on the team bus to Glasgow tomorrow for their opener in the Eastern C Divisional Tournament against 1C runner-up Richey-Lambert Fusion squad.

The Porkies advanced on the power of two 3-0 match wins in the District 3C tourney over rival Saco-Hinsdale, the host school. The other 3C entry at Divisional is Scobey, which topped Nashua for the district title.

Porcupines coach Shersteen Cline sees a bit of Scobey in Richey-Lambert. That means a challenge for her girls to show some advancement, as they've been doing all season, and to do it quickly. Scobey beat Nashua twice at District, both times 3-0.

"We will be up against some tough teams, with Richey-Lambert as our first match," Cline told The Courier. "However, we have come head-to-head with them in tournament earlier this season, and it was a close match. If I had to compare them to another team, I'd say they'd be similar in ability to Scobey. If we play to our potential, I believe we will be victorious."

Circle (1-2C) and Bainville (3-1C) open the eight-team Divisional at 9 a.m. Thursday, followed by Nashua (2-3C) vs. Richey-Lambert (2-1C) , Scobey (1-3C) vs. Jordan (2-2C) and Fairview (1-1C) vs. Broadus (3-2C). The tournament continues through Saturday. (See bracket on Page 3B.)

The top two finishers advance to State, Nov. 13-15 at Bozeman.

At District, Cline said Nashua "worked hard and played well."

"I had high expectations for the team this year with hopes of advancing to the Divisional Tournament, and I'm excited to say they delivered just that," she said. "Throughout the season the girls have continued to improve upon their skills, and the best is yet to come."

After a first-round bye, the Porkies opened with a hard fought win Friday against the Wildfire, 25-23, 25-22 and 25-19. Leading Nashua were Sandy Viste with 13 kills and 4 aces, Faith Keys with 3 blocks, Tasha Chamberlain with 3 digs and Chloe Koessl with 21 assists.
