R.D. 'Tag' Markle

R.D. "Tag" Markle, 89, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014, at the Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital in Glasgow, Mont.

A private service will be held at a later date.

He was born in Glasgow to Thomas and Florence Markle on Nov. 23, 1924. After graduating from Glasgow, he attended Kemper Military School before serving in the Army. For three years he was in the Medical Corp in Hawaii. After being released he attended the University of Montana. There he met his wife, Kae Lythgoe. Upon graduation, he and his wife returned to Glasgow where he joined the family's business. He and his brothers, O.E. an C.D., took over the business from their father. He was manager of the hardware store until his retirement in the 80s.

He was president of the Jaycees, Kiwanis and the Sunnyside Golf Course. He served on the board of Valley View Foundation, the library and Glasgow Beautification. He was a charter member of the Elks, the Hospital Foundation, Luke's 100, and more. He worked on the Food Bank for many years. He was an active member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church.

He enjoyed hiking around Cherry Creek collecting rocks. He loved golf, traveling, having coffee with his good friends, and spending time with his children and their families.

Preceding him in death were three brothers, Walter, O.E. and C.D .; and a sister, Blanche.

Survivors include his wife, Kae Markle, of Glasgow; four children, Debbie Tyler and her husband, Tee, of Salt Lake City, Utah, Jeff Markle and his wife, Lori, of Kennewick, Wash., Laurie Benvenga and her husband, Jim, of Sundance, Wyo., and Lisa Martin and her husband, Randy, of Billings; one sister-in-law, Lois Markle, of Glasgow; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials are suggested to the Markle Ambulance Fund or a charity of your choice.

Bell Mortuary of Glasgow is in charge of arrangements.
