Reds Finish Third In District

The Glasgow Reds had been virtually unbeatable the entire season.

That trend continued in the first two games of the District Tournament in Sidney after securing the tournament's top spot.

After a 23-4 victory over Miles City coupled with an 8-0 win against the Billings Cardinals, it appeared as if the Reds were preparing for an inevitable State Tournament berth in Lewistown.

It was at that moment that the wheels came off of the vaunted Reds offense and the hopes to extend their season even further came to a screeching halt.

Glasgow lost game three of the tournament to Laurel 11-4 and then succumbed a loser-out match against the Billings Blue Jays 10-1 that put the final nail in the coffin of the Reds season.

The fatal blows to the Reds State Tournament hopes left many supporters scratching their heads.

Glasgow kept both games close heading into the late innings of the games and as fans but this time Glasgow found themselves on the short end of the stick when the time came to put run after run on the board.

In the game against Laurel, the Dodgers jumped out to an early 5-0 lead by the bottom of the third inning and early indications hinted that the game would be over before the fourth inning started.

In typical Reds fashion, Glasgow battled back and cut the deficit to 5-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh.

Laurel was able to extend their lead by adding two more runs in their half of the inning . The Dodgers put the icing on the cake in the bottom of the eighth inning as they added four more to their total and took a commanding 11-3 lead.

The Reds added a run in the top of the ninth, but lost to the Dodgers, a team in which they took the No. 1 seed from late in the year in Glagow, 11-4.

Glasgow's Jake Page was the only Reds hitter with multiple hits in the game. Page went 4-4 at the plate and had an RBI.

In all, Glasgow saw eight players tally hits in the game. Reds pitcher Jonathan Koessl took the loss for Glasgow as he went eight innings while allowing 10 hits and 11 runs.

Only two of those runs were earned. The Reds committed nine errors in the game, something extremely rare for Glasgow.

Looking to bounce back and keep their hopes of a District title alive, the Reds faced the Billings Blue Jays in their fourth game of the tournament.

Glasgow and Billings were tied 1-1 heading into the top of the sixth and just like the previous game against Laurel, the Reds saw Billings unleash an offensive assault as the Blue Jays racked up nine runs over the last four innings of play and cruised to a 10-1 victory that knocked out the Reds from title contention.

The Reds' lone run came from the bat of Jake Kolstad in the bottom of the fifth.

In all the Reds accumulated seven hits in the game with Keil Krumwiede being the only Glasgow player with two hits or more.

Glasgow stranded nine runners on base in the game and committed four errors.

Ryan Padden took the loss for Glasgow as he tossed 6 2/3 innings while giving up eight runs, four unearned, four walks and five strikeouts.

The Reds finish the season with a 52-8 record.

Glasgow expects to return a majority of their lineup next season from this year's squad to make another run at a District title and beyond.
