Reds Secure Eastern A

The Laurel Dodgers have been a thorn in the side of the Glasgow Reds for much of the season.

The Reds finally got rid of that thorn as Glasgow went on to sweep Laurel at home last Wednesday and proceeded to win the remainder of the regular season games on the schedule to secure the top spot in the Eastern A heading into the District Tournament this weekend in Sidney.

"We did a great job finishing out the regular season and playing at home for that stretch was definitely to our advantage," said Reds Head Coach Jack Sprague. "We achieved one of our team goals by securing the conference title now we need to focus on another, and that is to win the district tournament."

Sprague said that his team will take a slightly different approach at Divisionals this year.

"Now that only one team moves on, we will evaluate the team we play and make our decision on who will start based off that," said Sprague.

Sam Schultz will be the game one starter for the Reds as they square off against Miles City on Thursday.

Schultz is 6-0 on the year and has proved to Sprague that he can be a consistent strike thrower for Glasgow so Sprague is confident that Schultz will continue that trend and help the Reds secure a win against the Mavericks.

Besides the pitching of the Reds, Glasgow also showcases an offense that can unleash a plethora of runs at any given time.

"Our team BA is .351 so we expect all our players to have competitive at bats and put good passes on the ball," Sprague said. "You never know who will get hot or rise to the occasion and that is what makes the post season tournament so unpredictable and exciting."

A complete schedule of the tournament is on Page 2B.
