Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913
William D. Omvig passed at his home in Kalispell, Mont., on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, as he had lived – with enduring strength and quiet dignity.
Born to Arthur and Nellie (McEwen) Omvig on May 24, 1931, on the family farm/ranch he so loved, he was educated at, and graduated from, Opheim High School in 1949. It was during his sophomore year in high school that he met his best friend and future wife, Yvonne Gilbert.
Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving four years in Korea and Texas, while earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. Upon his return, he and Yvonne married Aug. 10, 1952, residing in Great Falls and then Havre. In 1956, they returned to the family farm/ranch for the next 45 years where they raised their family, crops and livestock until Yvonne’s passing in July 2001. They enjoyed each other and their life together.
Bill spent his life as a devoted family man, loyal friend and servant of the good Lord. His passions were his family and farming the rich soils at the headwaters of Roanwood Creek and ranching at the headwaters of Morgan Creek. He had a strong love for his family, his land and his livestock.
Upon Yvonne’s passing and despite the physical challenges caused by degenerative arthritis, with a strong mind and great determination, he continued to actively farm and ranch until July 2011. Since July 2011, he lived with his daughter, Kristin, residing in Billings and Kalispell.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne; his father and mother, Arthur and Nellie; two brothers, John and Leroy; and one sister, Elda.
Survivors include two daughters, Wendy McGee and her husband, David, of Copenhagen, Denmark, and Kristin Omvig of Kalispell; two grandsons, Tyler McGee of South Carolina and Colin McGee of College Station, Texas; one sister and brother-in-law, Beryl and Bill Arvin of Havre; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A private graveside interment service was held May 19, 2014, with Pastor Dave Rogenes speaking a few kind words. Pall bearers were Jeff Roberton, Rick Stahl, Tim Stenglein, Doug Omvig, Les Redfield and Dean Barnes.
The life lessons, values, and work ethic, exemplified by the life you lead, will be remembered. You are already greatly missed.
