Scotties Fine Tuning

Glasgow Track & Field Gears Up For Districts On Saturday

Weather once again played the villain as the scheduled track and field meet in Miles City was rained out.

That forced the hand of the Glasgow coaches to organize an impromptu meet on Monday to get their athletes one last warm up before the District 2B Meet which will be held this Saturday at Glasgow High School.

"This is a meet where we're still trying to see some things from our athletes," said Glasgow Head Coach John LaBonty. "It's kind of a thrown together type of meet."

There are quite a few Scotties that you can expect to perform well at the District meet on Saturday. Dana Hughes is always a threat and expecting a good performance in her field events. Megan Dailey is competing for the top spot in the high jump and has already set a personal record this season of 5 feet 3 inches in the event.

Another area to watch for the girls is in the running events in which the relay teams are expected to compete for first. Individually in the running events, Rachael Zeiger, Abbi Helland and Emma Fewer are all ones to watch for.

The boys side is just as deep as the ladies and it all starts with the running and hurdle events.

The boys relay is looking to bounce back from a mishap at the Top Ten and in doing so, they will place themselves right back where they belong, either at or right near the top.

At the impromptu meet on Monday, the 4x100 team looked primed and ready to go. With Benji Phillips being the lead runner and Ryan Grandchamp claiming the anchor, Glasgow appears to be in good hands if they're able to make clean exchanges throughout the relay.

Labonty noted before the race on Monday that the exchanges in the boys relay is an area that needs to be worked on and from the looks of their performance on Monday, the boys are making sure that the handoffs won't cost them again down the road.

Glasgow will also look for Chase Fossum to produce in the 400 and high jump. In the field events, Scottie fans should pay close attention to the javelin as Lane Herbert is looking to advance to Divisionals with a solid performance in that event.

Divisonals will be held a week after Districts in Glasgow as well before the State meet in Butte on May 31.
