Hinsdale Track On a Roll

It was a brisk day for a track meet last Saturday at Scottie Field made a tad bit worse with an 8 a.m. starting time and a light breeze from the north but the boys and girls from Hinsdale were on a mission. The weather was furthermost from their thoughts this day when Hinsdale honors the memory of Hinsdale’s number one sports fan with this memorial track and field meet.

The boys put quite a few on the podium and with just one first place finish the Raiders took second place behind Fairview.

Pablo Pascual’s 12.19 was good enough to take two points in the 100-meter. Anthony Sones was eighth with Dallas Capdeville, Val Robert, Hannes Seifert and Marshall Bragg not far behind.

Sones added six points in the 200 and Capdeville got one point in the event.

Wyatt Pattison and Robert ran but out of the money.

Pascual added a second place finish in the 400 for eight points and Sones contributed four points.

Kyle Albus ran fifth in the 800 which added another two points to the Raider total. Things were looking good for the Hinsdale boys.

Hinsdale’s long distance ace Brett Johnson ran a very close second in the always tiresome and grueling 3,200 run winning eight points for the good guys and just four seconds out of first.

Brett Johnson also won six points in the 110 hurdles. Pattison, in his first attempt in this event, took fourth place for four more points. The points keep adding up nicely.

Hinsdale took third and 6 more points in the 4x100m relay while in the 4x400 relay team A took fourth for 4 points and team B won fifth for 2 points.

All three of Hinsdale’s pole vaulters were in the money today as Cache Younkin vaulted to a third place finish and six points, Pattison got fourth and three points and Pascual added a point for sixth place.

Val Robert was just barely out of the money in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 2 inches. Kyle Albus hopped, skipped and jumped to a fifth place and two points in the triple jump.

Luke Johnson had a good day in the discus with a third place finish and 6 more points while Younkin added one point.

The highlight of the day was Luke’s personal record and first place in the shot put. He tossed the sphere 41’ 6” which added the final 10 points to Hinsdale’s total of 89, just 19 points behind Fairview.

Coach Gordon Hawk is doing a good job inserting boys into events he thinks each individual can place for points and a second place team finish with just one first place event meant that everyone did their job and did it well. Good job guys.

The girls went on a rampage winning first in team with 92 points well ahead of Lambert Public with 76 and Fairview with 58.

Bethany Lacock started the girls out with a win in the 100 with a personal record of 12.87 and 10 points. She also won the 200 just barely edging out Scobey’s BoDayle Battleson by .18 of a second for another 10 points. Bethany always does better when she has someone pushing her and BoDayle does that perfectly.

In the 100 hurdles it was Delaney Beil with a third place and six points. She placed third in the 400 as well adding another six points to the ever growing total.

In the tough 300 hurdles Courtney Capdeville finished a strong third for six points and Beil added four points for fourth.

Lacock high jumped her way to yet another first place finish and another 10 points while Capdeville added four points for fourth.

It was an all Hinsdale pole vault with Bethany taking first with a personal record of 9’3”for 10 points and Courtney vaulted to a second place and eight points.

Germany’s own Josi Ellger had a personal record in the long jump with a leap of 13’11” for third place and six points and Courtney finished one inch short of the points in seventh place.

To no ones surprise, Bethany won the triple jump for ten more points. Josi pleased the crowd (and herself) with a fifth place hop, skip and jump and two more points. Courtney just need another spoonful of Wheaties for breakfast as she was just three inches short of the points in this event.

In the end, it was a great day for Hinsdale Raider boys and girls track and field and an excellent effort by all to honor the memory of Jean Dreikosen.

Thanks to all the volunteers who worked hard to make this a special meet. Also, Rocky Erickson will be speaking at the Sports Athletic Banquet and S.T.A.R.S on May 19. The even will start at 5 p.m. at the Hinsdale High School multi-purpose room.

That’s it for now folks. Thanks for listening
