Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Daggett, Billingsley Elected In Glasgow

School Board Trustees Etchart, Irving Unseated; Nashua, Hinsdale, Frazer Elections Bring Mixed Bag

Valley County had a busy school election season, as four out of six school districts held elections.

The Opheim and Lustre school districts did not have elections, due to the lack of candidates. Glasgow, Nashua, Hinsdale and Frazer voters did show up at the polls to decide on board of trustee members and levies.

The results here are the unofficial counts that came in late Tuesday, May 6.

Glasgow

Glasgow’s ballot held two three-year terms for the board of trustees. Incumbents David Irving and Patt Etchart were challenged by John Daggett and Suzanne Billingsley.

Glasgow voters also decided on a general fund levy for maintenance and operations that would raise an additional $54,000 for the $6.1 million budget.

The incumbents lost this election. Daggett took most of the votes with 707 and Billingsley was next with 684 votes, and both were elected. Etchart lost with 663 votes, as did Irving with 398 votes.

The general fund levy was passed, with 696 for and 591 against. The building reserve fund was also passed with 678 for and 607 against.

NASHUA

Nashua had two Board of Trustees positions on the ballot. Incumbents Joe Laumeyer and Ryan Williams ran against newcomers Joel Novak and Ray Yoss. Williams has been a board member since 2008 and Laumeyer has been on the board for one term since 2012.

Laumeyer will serve another term on the board, winning with 157 votes. Novak took the other seat with 145 votes.

Falling short were Ross with 119 votes and Williams with 92 votes. The positions are three-year terms.

HINSDALE

Hinsdale also had two Board of Trustee, three-year positions, up for the vote. Incumbents Keith Beil and Mike Jones were up against newcomers Stacy Hardman and Kay Fjeld.

The incumbents took the most votes in Hinsdale. Beil came out on top with 119, and Jones finished with 114 and both won election.

Fjeld received 61 votes and Hardman 48, not enough to win.

A reported 61 percent of eligible voters cast ballots in Hinsdale.

FRAZER

The Frazer school had a mill levy on the ballot for the operation and maintenance of the elementary school for the amount of $35,904.03. It was supported, 44 to 18, in the vote. The small turnout in Frazer was 62 voters.
