Wilbur Vernon Long

Wilbur Vernon Long, 81, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014, after a brief illness.

An informal service is planned for later this spring in Fort Peck. Interment will be in the Highland Cemetery in Glasgow.

He was born Oct. 18, 1932, in Big Beaver, Sask., Canada, to Vernon and Inga Long. In 1950 the family moved to Wolf Point, where he later met and married Betty Darlene Hamill. In 1962 they moved to Fort Peck, where he was employed by the Bureau of Reclamation and later Western Area Power until his retirement in 1989.

After retiring he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He also served as councilman for the town of Fort Peck.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harvey, Delmer and Kenneth; as well as his wife of 43 years, Darlene; and son Kevin.

Survivors include two sons, Randall Joe Long of Aberdeen, S.D., and Jay Long and his wife, Patricia, of Avondale, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Ryan, Heather, Michael, Dalton, Denton and Michael; as well as many nieces and nephews and their families.

Bell Mortuary of Glasgow is in charge of arrangements.
