Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Betty M. Scott

Betty M. (Heinrick) Scott passed away of natural causes on Monday, April 28, 2014. She was 98 years young. Our beloved mother, wife and grandmother, and wonderful friend will be greatly missed. This woman was an inspiration to everyone. She was strong, loving, and a role model for all. Words can't describe this wonderful woman.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 2, at Bell Chapel, and a luncheon and celebration of her life will follow at her home at 329 5th Ave South. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery.

She was born in Fillmore, N.D., on Feb. 1, 1916. Her parents were Barbara and Nelz Heinrick, and she had one brothe, Benne. She grew up and went to school at Fillmore. Her first job was at Sigma Chi College, where she cooked and cleaned through 1932.

She moved to Glasgow in 1933, and was employed at Hanson's Café and Glasgow Bakery. In 1937 she met her true love, Howard Scott, and they were married in 1938. They moved to a ranch in Big Sandy and helped run the local grocery store/meat market. She and Howard started their family and had four wonderful kids, Don, Ken, Carol and Dean. The family moved back to Glasgow and settled in for good. She then started work again at the Glasgow Bakery. Her other jobs through her lifetime included the Elk's Club, South Side School, Homemaker's and being a mother. Her last real job was as a Demo Derby parts scrubber for the Hippy demolition derby crew!

Music was an important part of her life. She was an unbelievable piano player and involved with numerous bands through her life, entertaining crowds all over the country. Rumor has it, she put on a concert a week before her last hospital stay.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; and daughter, Carol.

Survivors include three sons, Don, Ken and Dean; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bell Mortuary of Glasgow is in charge of arrangements.
