Field Of Dreams Envisioned

The 2014 baseball season is coming up fast with Babe Ruth and American Legion signups behind us and practices ready to start.

With an astounding growth in local interest, while other Montana cities can’t field teams, we had over 50 kids sign up this year and we’re not done yet.

That makes for two American Legion teams and three Babe Ruth teams. While the numbers of kids signing up is increasing, the number of fields we have to utilize isn’t quite there.

While the current field is in a beautiful location at Sullivan Park, what this community needs is a new baseball/softball complex out of the flood plain.

We are envisioning a new Legion field (using the current one for tournaments), a Babe Ruth field (their fences are shorter), a 200 foot dimension girls high school softball field and maybe another practice/warm up field.

When is this all going to happen? Probably not this or next year. Maybe not in five or 10 years. But eventually it needs to happen.

What we need is planning. Lots and lots of planning! If you are interested in the future of baseball in Northeast Montana, come to an organizational meeting on April 7 at 6 p.m. in the Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital Conference room.
