Information Sought In Elk Poaching Case

State wildlife officials are seeking tips from the public about the poaching of a mature bull elk on the Williamson Ranch Block Management Area south of Chinook.

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Warden Dirk Paulsen said the elk was shot from the Lloyd Road just south of Cow Creek Reservoir in southern Blaine County on the night of Nov. 2. The meat was left to waste on the private property that is enrolled in FWP's Block Management Program.

"The bull was discovered by hunters driving the road mid-day on Nov. 3," Paulsen said. "By the time I arrived on the scene, none of the meat was salvageable. I'm looking for any other hunters or other members of the public that were in the area that might have seen or heard anything."

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Paulsen directly at 406-263-0620 or the Turn In Poachers-Montana hotline at 1-800-TIP-MONT (1-800-847-6668). Callers can remain anonymous and may be offered a cash reward if the information leads to an arrest.
