Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Scotties 7th In Choteau Volleyball Tourney

The Glasgow volleyball team earned a seventh place at the Choteau invitational on Friday and Saturday, August 30-31. The Scotties missed the playoffs by one spot after playing six matches on Friday and seven on Saturday.

Coach Lori Dailey was pleased with the result for this opening tournament of the season and described the weekend as “fairly successful.” She said she was proud of how the girls fared and competed on the court.

“The girls banded together and played their hearts out,” Dailey said. “All the girls played quite a bit in a variety of roles, so even though we only had 10 players, I was happy with our depth.”

The team played well against some tough contenders, according to Dailey. Despite some meltdowns due to tiredness and inexperience in a few games, the girls matched up well. Dailey also said that the team needs to be more consistent.

“If we can eliminate the roller-coasters, I’ll be a lot happier,” she said. “We need to stay focused for an entire game, but this will come with practice and experience.”

The Scotties played against teams they will meet again this season and this tournament was the opportunity to see where the team stands among state contenders.

“As always, it was great to compete against some perennial state contenders, see how we match up, see where the glaring holes in our system are, see how we handle the pressure of competing when tired,” Dailey explained. “It’s important to remember that this was the opening tourney. Teams will change dramatically by the next time we face them, so none of us can ever let down our guard,” she added.

Before the Chinook invitational this weekend, the Scotties will work on some defensive plays, especially to counterbalance their lack of height.

“We’re short, but we’re pretty scrappy, just like we hoped to be. Now we need to figure out how to maintain our offensive push without allowing other teams so many points,” Dailey explained.

The Scotties will be on the road again this weekend for the Chinook invitational on Friday and Saturday, September 6-7.
