James D. Spence

James “Jim” D. Spence, 78, of Valentine, Neb., died July 2013 in his home.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Torrington.

He was born Sept. 10, 1934, in Melpha, Neb., the son of Les and Claire (Mayhew) Spence. He served in the U.S. Navy from November 1955 through August 1957, and was honorably discharged.

On June 1, 1958, he was married to Eleanor E. Eggers in Henry, Neb. The couple was blessed with two sons, James and Kent.

Jim worked as a rancher until he was employed with the Dept. of Interior until his retirement in March 1995.

He was preceded in death by his father, Les, and brother Bob.

Survivors include two sons, James and his wife, Kathy, of Lincoln, Neb., and Kent and his wife, Pat, of Omaha, Neb .; his mother, Claire, of Torrington, Wyo .; brothers, Bill of Homeland, Idaho, and Dale and his wife, Janet, of Denver, Colo .; and four grandchildren, Zac, Shawn, Scott and Tyson.
