Glasgow Glendives Into Third

Kiwanis Swim Brings Home The Bronze In Weekend Trip To Glendive

The Glasgow Kiwanis Swim Team came out of Glendive with a third-place finish as a team, two high-point winners and one big goal in mind, focusing on attitude during the homestretch of the season.

Falling short of the Sidney Tiger Sharks and the Glendive Wet Devils, Glasgow topped Lewistown, Roundup, Plentywood, Scobey, Malta and Chinook during the two-day meet, scoring 511 team points. High-point winners Khloe Krumwiede and Trevor Johnson led the way for Glasgow with each accumulating three first-place finishes.

Krumwiede, in the girls’ 13-14 class, brought home golds in the 200-meter Individual Medley (IM), with a finals time of 3 minutes, 1.88 seconds, the 50 free at 30.51 and the 100 free in 1:08.33. In the boys’ 9-10, Johnson finished first in the 100 IM at 1:46.72, came in at 56.43 for first in the 50 backstroke and was tops in the 50 butterfly with a time of 49.84.

Joining Krumwiede in the girls’ 13-14 were Cara Goeke, who took second in the 100 breaststroke at 1:38.34, Jordan Kulczyk, who was third in the 100 free, finishing in 1:16.98, and DJ Rasmusan, who placed second in the 100 backstroke in 1:30.56. The girls’ 13-14 200 free relay also brought home a gold with a time of 2:14.73.

Klaire Krumwiede had a nice day in the girls’ 9-10 class, finishing in second in the 50 breaststroke and third in both the 100 IM and the 50 butterfly.

And Johnson’s sibling, Taylor, continued the family assault on Glendive, scoring a second in the boys’ 11-12 200 IM and two thirds, one in the 50 breaststroke and another in the 50 butterfly.

The boys’ 11-12 was Glasgow’s deepest age division in Glendive as Britt Fairclough, Ben Miller and Tim Wageman all scored top-three placings and the 200 free relay team took the top spot, with a time of 2:34.57.

Miller brought home a gold in the 50 breaststroke and two bronze finishes, one in the 50 free and the other in the 100 free. Fairclough was second in the 50 backstroke and third in the 200 IM. Wageman was just behind Fairclough in the 50 backstroke, finishing in third.

The girls’ 11-12 class was almost just as strong for Glasgow behind the efforts of Katie Kaiser, who finished in the top spot of three races, the 50 free, the 50 backstroke and the 50 butterfly. She also helped the girls’ 11-12 200 free relay take the top spot with a time of 2:03.63.

Continuing the Glasgow family success in Glendive was Lex Fairclough, who was third in the 25 breaststroke in the boys’ 8 and under class.

Rounding out the top-three placings for Glasgow was Megan Rasmusan and her pair of bronze-medal finishes in the 50 butterfly and the 100 backstroke.

“The swim meet went well overall, some attitude issues, but I was pleased how some of them brought it to the table,” said co-head coach Matthew Dangleis.

However, he mentioned those attitude issues are now the focus.

“This week, I am looking at attitude changes, we want them to be positive this weekend,” he said.

The team will need that positivity as they travel to Lewistown for a two-day meet on Saturday and Sunday and then start “hell week,” where coaches Dangleis and Alex Leuchars push the swimmers as far as they can for one week, then taper off the next before divisionals in an attempt to see a big drop in time.

The Eastern Divisional swim meet, hosted by Glasgow, is scheduled for July 27-28, with the state meet the next weekend.
