  • Hi-Line Hunt

    Gwendolyne Honrud, The Courier|Nov 24, 2021

Living in Valley County, a hub for hunters and outdoor activities, it can be easy to forget that not everyone ventures out with a rifle or shotgun to put food on their own table. I am one of those with extremely limited exposure to the hunting community. So when a press release from Hi-Line Sportsmen crossed our news desk in pre-covid times announcing a new hunter mentoring program geared towards youth, but open to everyone, I thought it would make a fantastic story. I emailed Andrew McKean,...

The Glasgow Ice Dawgs high school team split their games in Bozeman this past weekend. The boys lost 6-3 Saturday evening, but rebounded Sunday morning in an 8-5 victory. Glasgow's Colter Barnett came out with a hot stick, putting two pucks past the Ice Dogs' netminder in the first two minutes of play. As an added bonus, the middle schoolers got to try out the Montana Physical Abilities Test (MPAT). The MPAT is a hybrid physical ability/job sample physical abilities assessment process designed to evaluate law enforcement officer...

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints extends an invitation to all who would like to share in celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ with their annual Nativity Open House held from Dec. 1 through 3. First presented locally in 2015, the tradition has been growing each year as community members willingly share their collections of Nativities for the public to enjoy. • Publisher's Desk

Chris McDaniel, Publisher at The Courier|Nov 24, 2021

I recently had a conversation about how the political cycle never really pauses anymore. For my generation, this is par for the course. CNN launched not too long before I was born, so the constant news cycle is nothing new. You can tell, however, what drives ratings because the powers that be will beat whatever poor horse it is to death, ignoring other more relevant news. In the early 1990s, it was the OJ Simpson case. My fifth grade class watched the verdict live. Our teacher figured it was something we should witness. Thinking back, it...

  • OP-ED: Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill Creates Montana Jobs, Lowers Costs

    Jon Tester, U.S. Senator|Nov 24, 2021

As a farmer, I know firsthand that good things take time. Every year, I plant my fields with crops like wheat, barley, peas, and saffron, and in July, August, and September, I harvest those crops and reap what I’ve sown. Writing laws is much the same – and this fall, after a long spring and summer of working with Republicans and Democrats, Montana is set to reap urgently-needed upgrades to our crumbling infrastructure and strong economic growth across our state, thanks to my bipartisan infrastructure bill that was signed into law by the pre...

  • OP-ED: When Giving Thanks, Don't Forget Your Local Paper

THOMAS L. KNAPP, William Lloyd Garrison Center for Libertarian Advocacy Journalism|Nov 24, 2021

As Thanksgiving approaches, I usually take a little time to think about who and what I'm thankful for and express my. That seems to be the point, after all. This year, for various reasons, my thoughts and appreciation turn toward journalists, newspapers, and other news media. Sometimes the people and institutions we rely on to keep us informed get a bad rap, and sometimes they deserve it. When the Washington Post and New York Times act more as stenographers for the political class than reporters of the facts, we all lose. When trusted (by...

  • OP-ED: Why Would You Say "No?"

    Jack Ballard|Nov 24, 2021

I’m running to be the next member of Congress from Montana’s eastern district because I’ve devoted my life to this state’s people, land and wildlife. It pains me to see our lone representative in the U.S. House of Representatives, Matt Rosendale, ignore the needs of the people he was elected to represent. He voted against badly needed pandemic relief across Montana and the rest of America, declines to challenge the price-gouging of corporate meatpackers who are driving family ranchers out of business and disregards the interests of workers...

  • Cody Drabbs

    Nov 24, 2021

Cody was born to George and Darcie (Hansen) Drabbs on August 4, 1988 at the Francess Mahon Deaconess Hospital in Glasgow, Montana. He was brought home to his big sister, Jennifer, and quickly became her pride and joy and biggest annoyance. Cody had a love for the outdoors at an early age and always seemed to escape only to be found on his 3 wheeler, between a horse's legs or at the creek. His mischievous smile always saved him from getting into trouble. He loved spending time with his most favor...

  • Wind!

    Mary Honrud|Nov 24, 2021

I'm pretty sure everyone has talked about, commented on, or complained about the recent two-day windstorm we had. Wasn't that a doozy? It showed how vulnerable we are to Mother Nature. And yet we need to be grateful our winds weren't accompanied by rain and/or sleet or snow. The northwestern coastal areas have it so much worse than us. Flooding and mudslides are harder to recover from. And aren't we grateful we have houses to shelter in? Shingles and roofs can be repaired, unlike the bird nests...

  • Technology. It's Not Just For Christmas.

    Richard Noble|Nov 24, 2021

Somehow, it’s that time of year again. The holiday shopping season is upon us and with that comes the challenge of finding meaningful gifts for the ones we care about. With the landscape so vast for bluetooth trinkets and WiFi kitchen appliances, what’s the secret to not having your purchases regifted by June? It’s estimated that this season we’ll drop around $142.5 billion on technology purchases. A record 191.3 million adults plan on purchasing technology or a technology accessory this year to bestow upon those they care about. This is part...
