Area residents got a chance to check out the 79-feet-tall Christmas tree bound for the U.S. Capitol Mall. The tree's escort made a stop at the Valley Event Center in Glasgow on Nov. 17. Local, state, and federal law enforcement escorted the tree in and out of town with sirens blaring, an honor usually reserved for Scottie athletes going and coming from state tournaments. Local man William Kratzer was arrested Nov. 14 west of Glasgow. According to County Attorney Dylan Jensen, Kratzer has been charged with felony strangulation of a partner or family member. He was released Nov. 16 on a $25,000 bond with court dates pending. Valley County Commissioners Administrative Assistant Ruth Dowell would like to remind the public that the courthouse building will be closed on Thanksgiving Day.... Full story
The 13th Annual Festival of Trees on Nov. 17 and 18, was a huge success! There were a record number of entries, 140 people were served at the Prime Rib dinner and more money was raised than ever at the auction. The People's Choice winners were Amy Aune's centerpiece entitled "Frosty" and JBR's tree "Christmas Brilliance." They will each receive Chamber Big Bucks. Overall, it was a great festival.... The Senior Citizen’s Center in Glasgow is once again hosting the Valley County Thanksgiving Day dinner. Don’t be confused by the venue. This is a community dinner and all are invited. The time is set for Nov. 23, from noon to 2 p.m., at 328 4th Street South. Over the past 26 years, almost 4,500 people have enjoyed the event. Montana Department of Transportation Director Mike Tooley announced on Nov. 16 that MDT is scrapping the Grass Range round-a-bout project. The 14U Ice Dawgs had a successful opening weekend in Kalispell Nov. 17-19. They played four games and earned four wins – three of them shut-outs for goalie Elizabeth Nyquist. The games were held at Woodland Ice Center, an outdoor rink in Kalispell. The boys recorded two wins against the Americans, with one shut out for goalie Casey Mattfeldt. The pair of games began on Saturday afternoon with a 7-0 win for Glasgow, and finished Sunday morning with a second win 6-2. In Saturday's game, Glasgow's defense held the Americans at bay, allowing only 15 shots on goal for Mattfeldt to save. In comparison, Glasgow's offense recorded 41 attempts on their opponent's net. While the first game against the Bighorns was a runaway for Glasgow (17-0), the second game was much more balanced (5-2). Jacob Potter earned a shut-out with Glasgow's first win against the Bighorns, stopping 10 of 10 attempts on his net.
