In the Nov. 8 Mid-Term Election, a total of 3,278 registered voters made their voices heard, of the total 4,928 registered voters in the county, making this election a 67 percent turn out. In the unofficial results provided by the Valley County Election Office, incumbent John Fahlgren won re-election with 1,568 votes compared to Jerry Davenport’s 1,531. Art Widhalm (pictured) was one of a number of volunteers at the downtown intersections for VFW Buddy Poppy Day on Nov. 4. The funds raised during the day event are put towards the Veterans Relief Fund, which is used to help area veterans. According to Widhalm, 99 percent of the funds benefit Valley County veterans, while the other one percent assists with veterans who are in the area traveling by but need help. Before the weather turned from fall to winter, a Free Little Library (FLL) was installed on Nov. 4 in front of the entrance of Highland Cemetery in Glasgow due to the generosity of Dick Markle and Glasgow Street Foreman Scott Runningen. Opheim School and Glasgow Middle School (GMS) observed Red Ribbon Week Oct. 24 through 28, with Glasgow wrapping up their observation on the 31st with a school assembly meeting Goose, the Valley County's sheriff's drug dog and a door decorating contest. The American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) was signed by President Biden in March 2021. It provided $1.9 trillion in COVID-19 relief funding. Valley County received allocations from several funding sources within ARPA. The first allocation was $1,436,586, provided to Valley County in two halves, in July 2021 and July 2022. The City of Glasgow is reminding residents to keep streets and alleys clear of vehicles as the winter season is fast approaching. Summer vehicles such as campers, RVs and watercraft must be removed from any city street or alley by Dec. 1. The Valley County Commissioners have bene holding weekly Discussion and Decision meetings to gain public input on how to spend the latest American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) allocation funding. Valley County received the latest ARPA allocation of $1,805,269 from the U.S. Treasury, through the Local Assistance (Public Lands Counties) fund in October and a matching amount is scheduled to be allocated again in 2023. Valley County 4-H Awards Day was held on Oct. 30 at the frigidly cold Saint Raphael’s Parish Center. Several Western Valley 4-H Club members received awards. On Oct. 11, the entire Opheim school, including preschool went on a field trip to the Nordhagen North of Nowhere Ranch. They learned about rotational grazing and why they have opted for it. The students also helped Darren Nordhagen put up a temporary fence. For all of their learning and hard work, they enjoyed North of Nowhere beef snack sticks.
