A crash involving a Glasgow Public Schools bus and a pickup was reported west of Glasgow on Hwy 2 on Sept. 19. Both drivers involved were killed. The driver of the truck was Julie Steiger (31) of Troy, Mont., and the school bus driver was Harold James (Jim) Belcher, a 73-year-old Fort Peck resident. According to Valley County Sheriff Vern Buerkle, the accident was called in at 6:35 a.m. on Tuesday morning. On Sept. 6, U.S. Senator Steve Daines spoke to members of the Senate in Washington D.C. to raise awareness and draw attention to the fires that keep burning in Montana. In these remarks, Daines and Congressman Greg Gianforte discussed having invited Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue and Secretary of Interior Ryan Zinke to Montana to see first-hand the impact wildfires are having. The Glasgow Area Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture will once again be hosting the Saskatoon Police Pipes and Drums during the 2017 Glasgow Scottie Homecoming Festival weekend, Friday, Oct. 6, and Saturday, Oct. 7. On Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017, at the age of 79, our beloved "Babe" left this world, surrounded by his children and friends, to be with his high school sweetheart, Darlene. Gerald Paul "Babe" Monson was born on Nov. 5, 1938, in Rothsay, Minn. He was the sixth child of Julian Monson and Effie Halbakken. Shortly after his birth, the name Gerald Paul was dropped, and he became known as "Babe." He was baptized Nov. 30, 1938, and was confirmed on May 24, 1953, at the First Lutheran Church in Glasgow.... Meredith Shirley (Geer) Kummerfeldt passed away of natural causes Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, at Valley View at the age of 95. She was the second of twins, born Sept. 18, 1921, near New London, Minn., to Henry and Jennie (Price) Geer. At the age of 13, she and her family moved from their Minnesota farm to Park Grove, Mont., where her father worked for the Army Corp of Engineers, building the Fort Peck Dam. Lonnie James Moran, 68, from Orem, Utah, passed away with his family by his side on Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017, after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Browning, Mont., on Feb. 2, 1949, to Roger John Moran and Imelda Marie (Johnson) Moran. The family moved to Glasgow, Mont., where he grew up and attended St. Raphael's Catholic School.
