During their Discussion and Decision meeting on Aug. 3, the Valley County Commissioners in attendance, Commissioner Paul Tweten and Commissioner John Fahlgren, voted to provide Valley View Home another $500,000 appropriation to help keep the nursing home sustainable. Commissioner Mary Armstrong was absent from the meeting. The money being appropriated by Valley County comes from American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) money which the county received from the federal government during the COVID-19 pandemic. During the Glasgow City Council meeting on Aug. 1, the Council gave final approval for an annual two percent increase in water and sewer rates for city customers through September 2027. The initial increase will see the base rate of residential water go up to $28.71 and the sewer base rate will increase to $45.75. The new rates will be effective Sept. 1, however residents won’t see the new rate reflected until they receive their October billing notices for September usage. A total of $57 million in U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Utilities Service ReConnect grants for broadband expansion in rural areas and Indian Country has been secured by the federal government. The grants, which were funded through Fiscal Year 2021 appropriations, will go to the Blackfoot Telephone Cooperative in Ravalli County, Nemont in Roosevelt and Valley Counties and the Fort Peck Indian Reservation, and the Reservation Telephone Cooperative in Richland and Wibaux Counties. LaVern Gene Stellflug passed away peacefully on Monday, July 25, 2022, in Kennewick, Wash., after suffering a stroke in April of 2022. He was 79. A celebration of life is planned in Pasco, Wash., on Saturday, Sept. 17. A graveside memorial service will be held in June 2023 in Opheim, Mont., at the Lawndale Cemetery, just outside of Opheim. William "Bill" G. Stuart, age 88 of Glasgow, Mont., passed away the evening of Sunday, July 31, 2022. Bill has been cremated. A "Celebration of His Life" will take place at a later date. Bill was born on June 18, 1934, to Joyce and Alice (Gessner) Stuart. He grew up and received his education in Glasgow. There have been a lot of trips to Glasgow this past week. The Florida grandsons as well as our daughter had to take in the county fair. Those boys were thrilled with the bouncy house attractions after initially being told there wouldn’t be a carnival. “What’s a fair without rides?,” they asked. They’re still young enough to be excited about being very active. So I give kudos to whoever managed to find and bring in the person(s) running those attractions.
