The Glasgow Kiwanis Thunder Swim Team traveled to Columbia Falls fro the 2021 State Swim meet July 31 and Aug. 1. The team returned with one state champion and a number of swimmers who cracked the top five. Combined, the boys and girls earned 249 points and placed ninth out of the 20 teams at the meet. The annual Mow ‘Em Short golf tournament was held on Saturday at Sunnyside Golf and Country Club. Golfers from around the region hit the links for three rounds of golf, playing a single round each of scramble, best ball and alternate shot play. Beautiful weather accompanied the last day of July and the golfers as they made their rounds under a sunny haze. Student Athlete Concussion Testing for all 6th-12th Grade students participating in sports this year will be held in Room 6 at Glasgow High School today through Friday, Aug. 6, from noon to 4 p.m. each day. HAVRE– The process of developing the first Fresno Reservoir Fisheries Management Plan is nearing completion, and Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is seeking public comment on a draft plan developed by FWP and a 9-member Advisory Committee. HELENA – Several angling restrictions on rivers in southwest, north-central and south-central Montana go into effect today due to warming temperatures and low flows. The restrictions include what are commonly known as “hoot owl” restrictions, which means fishing is closed from 2 p.m. to midnight each day. Watercraft inspection stations are the first line of defense to protect Montana’s water from the harmful impacts of aquatic invasive species. A BNSF engine with a ruptured fuel tank parked at the Glasgow Train Station leaked diesel fluid onto the roadway below the bridge late Monday night, soliciting response from The Long Run and city of Glasgow Fire Departments. It was with great delight I recently received a letter via snail-mail from Pat Hallett of Nashua with more details about the late Glenn Davies, who rests in eternal repose at Highland Cemetery in Glasgow, flanked by his brothers in arms. Davies, a 2nd Lieutenant for the Army Air Corps, was killed in action on Feb. 9, 1945 while serving with the 96th Fighter Squadron in the European Theater. Dear Editor, I am writing you from Cell-Block-C in the Valley County Detention Center. We read your paper every week regardless of where we're originally from. The facility here is very tolerable. Not only because of the air-conditioner in summer and heat in winter, but the people. The staff here treat us like human-beings and not animals. The food is good, too. I am 32-years-old and a mother of one 8-year-old girl who enjoys swim team and swimming for fun. I am looking to raise money to help pay for the Valley County Community Pool. Any amount will help build a new pool. We still need an estimated $1.78 million. We do have a grant in place, but if we do not have the pool completed by 2023, we will lose the grant. Regina "Jean" Mae (LaFond) Goldberg, 85, of Glasgow, Montana passed away Friday, July 23, 2021 at Valley View Home. Jean was born May 2, 1936 in Rockport, Massachusetts to Wilford and Clair (McManus) LaFond.
