Last week Valley County Commissioners met with people from the Keystone Pipeline and discussed new developments on the project and updates on their plan for the area. Some of the plans include improvements being made to three county roads that the company plans to use regularly in Valley County. These roads include Burns Road, Britsch Road and Bear Creek Road. The third annual Paint Run/Walk will be on Saturday, Aug. 19, in Glasgow. The run/walk is a 2.5 mile untimed event highlighted by participants being sprayed with powdered paint at various points along the course. The event is jointly sponsored by Glasgow High School Student Council and the Glasgow Recreation Department. The run/walk, for the third year in a row, is a fundraiser for the Warriors on the Water Project, and all proceeds will benefit the organization. The Glasgow Fire Department responded to a fire at the La Casa Hotel on Friday. When they arrived they discovered that someone had started a gas can on fire and luckily the flames were nearly out. The small blaze caused some damage to the building, burning the window casing on one of the rooms. The suspect, Melvin Thompson, had fled the scene on foot heading east, and was apprehended by the Glasgow Police Department near the Holiday. The Glasgow Police department would like to remind area residents to help reduce vehicle break-ins and property theft by locking the doors to property and vehicles. Valley View's own Robert "Bob" Schumacher is turning 100 years old on Aug. 2. He was born in 1917 in Wisconsin, and has seen many things throughout his life. His time in Wisconsin taught him a love of fishing, especially for catfish. He loves to share stories of his many fishing trips and the various fish he has caught. The absence of a telephone didn’t bother our family, at least as I recall. We were a letter-writing group, especially during World War II with two brothers in the military awaiting news from home. Do you remember before bottled water? Can you even imagine what our parents and grandparents would have had to say if anyone would have mentioned a business of bottled water! Thomas James Miller went to be with our Lord and Savior on Friday, July 28, 2017. He passed away in a tragic car accident, due to no fault of his own. He was born to Wesley and Sheila (Toavs) Miller in Glasgow, Mont., on June 12, 2001. He attended school in Nashua where he would have been a junior this year. He was a polite, fun-loving kid. James "Jim" K. Seiler, age 73, of Glasgow, Mont., passed away on Friday, July 28, 2017, at the Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital in Glasgow. Per his request, cremation has taken place and no services will be held. He was born on Feb. 8, 1944, in Glasgow to Charles M. Seiler and Marie Roos and received his early education from St. Raphael's Catholic School, graduating from Glasgow High School in 1962. The Glasgow Kiwanis Swim Team will be facing some tough competition at the upcoming state swim meet. The Thunder will be competing in the Class A division against Glendive, Columbia Falls, Conrad and Big Sandy. Head coach Nicole Arnold explained that classifications are based on the amount of points scored during the divisional meet. A small crowd gathered to watch the Old Mil Ranch Rodeo held at the Valley County Fairgrounds on July 29. Five teams competed in five events: branding, trailering, doctoring, cow milking and stray gathering. Following the team events, an individual bronc riding competition was held.
