  • Trio of Personnel Changes at Valley View

    James Walling, The Courier|Jun 22, 2016

In response to mounting challenges in resident care at Glasgow’s Valley View Home, Health Management Services, the management company hired to run the facility in 2014, has fired at least one long-term employee in recent days. With as many as three local individuals falling victim to what HMS’s Karly Kruckenberg described as “personnel changes,” questions abound regarding VVH’s staffing capacity and HMS’s longterm plans for the much-loved local institution. Following a troubling quality assurance review by state inspectors (see “Valley Vie...

  • City Champs!

    Georgie Kulczyk, The Courier|Jun 22, 2016

The Courier's very own baseball team (okay, we share them with Albertsons) defeated Glasgow Distributors (GD) Monday night to become the Cal Ripken Majors city champs. GD made their way to the championship game the hard way, fighting their way through the loser's bracket and forcing a second game against Albertsons/Courier (A/C). A/C had been undefeated in the tournament until Sunday afternoon, when GD handed them their first loss. With Rance Rhoads pitching for A/C and Kiegan Ingram on the...

  • Thunder Struggles in Chinook

    Georgie Kulczyk, The Courier|Jun 22, 2016

The Glasgow Kiwanis Thunder competed at their third swim meet of the season June 18 and 19 in Chinook, and placed seventh overall. This past weekend's meet was the first meet held in Chinook since the loss of swimmer Jesse Dannels, who died in a motor vehicle accident earlier this year. Dannels mother, Ruth, was the announcer for the weekend. On Saturday morning, swimmers from each team assembled at the edge of the pool and joined hands while memories were shared. Following a prayer, in a...

  • Reds Claim One Win in Lewistown

    Georgie Kulczyk, Th Courier|Jun 22, 2016

The Glasgow Reds traveled to Lewistown for a four-day tournament June 16-19. The young team was unable to snag a win until their final game of the tournament against Dickinson. The boys faced the Tri-County Cardinals for their first game Thursday morning. The Cardinals scored their one and only run in the bottom of the first inning, but it was the run that would win them the game. Kasey Seyfert pitched a full six innings, faced 24 batters, and struck out 4. Despite their six hits in the game, two of which were from Korbin Cole, the Reds were un... Full story

  • Make America Great Again

    Sage Sukut, Valley County Voices|Jun 22, 2016

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past year or so, you must know that Donald Trump is the Republican candidate running for the 2016 Presidential Election. Along with his running, you’ve most likely also heard of or seen his campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again.” He promises the people of this country that he will restore traditional values and policies that once made this nation great—economically and morally. As I think of this slogan, I begin to dissect it. Particularly, I think of the word “again.” Has this country ever...

  • EPA and Corps of Engineers Out of Control

    Virgil Vaupel|Jun 22, 2016

What the hell are those two government agencies doing picking on a 77-year-old disabled Navy veteran who is just trying to live out his life in relative mountain comfort and not bother anyone? Seems as time goes by, and more and more people are getting disenchanted with the over-bearing EPA and most other government entities, they manage to step in it again by pushing yet another citizen around and gaining atta boys from their superiors in Washington, D.C. Ok ... stop right there you BHLs. I know Joe Robertson doesn’t actually OWN the land h...

  • My Heart Hurts

    Georgie Kulczyk, Soapbox Soliloquy|Jun 22, 2016

It’s been nearly two years since I left Valley View Home. Although I initially resigned my position, I was eventually terminated. Either way, I didn’t leave willingly. I thought I had left all of the hurt and hard feelings behind. However, recent events have dredged those feelings back up – and more. My heart hurts, I’m angry, and I’m worried. My heart hurts because in the past two years, many people that I respect and consider friends have been terminated or pushed to resign from positions that they had literally dedicated their lives to....

  • On Fatherhood

    Sandy Laumeyer, Just A Thought|Jun 22, 2016

It was recently brought home to me just how far something a person writes can travel. I received an email with a message in it that had been sent from a Courier subscriber in the state of Virginia that was a compliment on my column. Many, many times people have stopped me and said how much they enjoy my column. To each and every one, whether I’ve received the compliment in person, by phone, by email, or as a message to another person who has passed it on -- thank you very, very much. I deeply appreciate all of your kind remarks. They really do...

  • I Never Have, and Never Will, Sell Your Public Lands

    Ryan Zinke, Zeroing In|Jun 22, 2016

Earlier this week, the Natural Resources Committee voted on a series of bills, two of which dealt with public lands. The first piece was an outright transfer of federal lands. The second piece dealt with establishing a land management pilot program. I have said this before, and will say this again: I do not support selling and transferring ownership of Montana’s public lands. Anyone who says otherwise, whether they are knowingly lying to promote themselves, or unaware of the actual votes, is wrong. I was the only Republican to vote against m...

  • Quixote Tilts Admirably in Fort Peck

    James Walling, The Courier|Jun 22, 2016

Local favorite Pam L. Veis delivers a muddled effort with her directorial debut for the Fort Peck Summer Theatre. And who minds a little muddle? Under the circumstances, probably no one. Man of La Mancha is a well-known show, thankfully, and actor James Rio's Quixote hits most of the high notes needed to satisfy a friendly audience. That said, Veis' staging leaves key sections of the text needlessly confusing for those unfamiliar with this admirable work. To put a fine point on it, the... Full story
