  • Change Proposed For Cemetery

    Bonnie Davidson, The Courier|Jun 18, 2014

It's an emotional struggle for families involved at the Glasgow Highland Cemetery. The issue is whether standing headstones should be left alone or a city ordinance should be changed to allow standing headstones that have been placed where only flat stones are permitted. With 44 headstones already standing near the flat stones, it could mean some difficult decisions for the city council. The cemetery committee met June 10 to discuss the issue with family members and decide on its recommendation... Full story

The two attended a training seminar April 29-30 at the Billings landfill, where they learned from Jason Todaro of Blue Ridge Services about the latest maintenance techniques and ways...

  • The Road To Freedom

    Bonnie Davidson, Bonnie & Box Of Chocolates|Jun 18, 2014

I pay close attention to our law enforcement and court reports. I take note in my mind on certain things going on in our community. One thing I've been paying attention to, is where people are getting pulled over at, and what they end up getting ticketed for. It might be a strange habit, but I've always paid attention to traffic issues wherever I am. Part of that comes from a cousin of mine. He was a football star, in college, had a lot going for him and a tragic accident took his life. I was only 13. It was a shock to most of the family. The...

  • No Expiration Date For Making Your Dream Come True

    Sandy Laumeyer, Just A Thought|Jun 18, 2014

Last week we decided to go visit my husband's brother, Bob, who lives in Boulder. Since we wanted to spend most of the week with him and it's a 400-mile drive to his home, we left on Sunday and drove as far as Havre, where we stayed overnight with our niece. When we visit Bob, we always go to the secondhand stores in Helena and Butte. Bob and I thoroughly enjoy hunting for "treasures." This trip, Bob suggested we take a day trip to Anaconda. I'd never been there, so I was all for it. We started off by driving through Whitehall Pass -- an... Full story

  • Hey, Candidates: Expose Your Dark Money Donors

Bob Brown, Former Mont. Secretary Of State|Jun 18, 2014

The venerable Barry Goldwater warned that,“Unlimited campaign spending eats at the heart of the democratic process. It feeds the growth of special interest groups created solely to channel money into political campaigns. It creates an impression that every candidate is bought and owned by the biggest givers. And it causes elected officials to devote more time to raising money than to their public duties.” Goldwater's foresight was right. Congress will be in session only 123 days this year. They'll have a lot more time, on the public dime, to...

  • Time out For Some Discipline

    Gwen Cornwell, Remember When|Jun 18, 2014

Do you remember some of the methods of discipline your parents used when you were a child? I don’t remember that “time out” was in my parents' vocabulary. I remember a lot of threats like, “If I have to come up there (upstairs), you are going to be sorry!” Of course, most of you were like my siblings and me; you knew by the tone of voice whether or not you would get warned once or twice more before action was taken. Here's another illusion some of you may remember. I was always told that if I were put in jail for some reason, the only thin...

  • It's Been A Pleasure, Glasgow

    Virgil Vaupel, Thanks For Listening|Jun 18, 2014

That’s about it. Eight years and about 72,000 miles ago I asked Beth Henville, the then sports editor of the Glasgow Courier why the Hinsdale Raiders weren’t getting any “ink” and could I do something to change that situation. Beth told me to “write something up and we’ll see what happens” and as they say, “the rest is geography.” There were several or more years when I didn’t miss a volleyball match, a basketball game or a track meet. Usually I traveled solo so I could visit after the games or so I could “write” my story on the way home w...
