Milk River Motorsports hosted their annual Spring Demo Derby on June 13, at the Glasgow Fairgrounds. While the number of participants was down from last year (29 to 10), the excitement was not. Undersheriff Vernon Buerkle was honored for 37 years of service in the Glasgow area with a Distinguished Career award by the Montana Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association June 11 in Missoula. Buerkle moved to Glasgow from Southeastern Montana 37 years ago to take a job with the Police Department. After 21 years with the GPD, Buerkle moved to the Sheriff's Department, where he has served for 16 years. He has been Undersheriff since October of 2000. Questions and comments from the public at the June 15 City Council meeting put a temporary halt to the passage of Ordinance No. 952 regarding limits on the number of cats and dogs residents can own and maintain within city limits. I live in Fort Peck, but I spend much of my time in Billings. Because of that, I didn't read last week's Courier until Sunday. I was very disappointed in the review of Krakauer's book. Although DK Holm's level of detail indicates that he actually read the book, somehow he missed Krakauer's overall message, which is that rape is on college campuses is commonplace and handled poorly by the justice system. Ethel Lenore (Rasmussen) Partridge passed peacefully at Valley View Home in Glasgow, Mont., on Thursday, May 21, 2015, at the age of 95. The Glasgow Kiwanis Thunder achieved another strong finish at the Malta swim meet this past weekend. After placing third at the first meet of the season in Harlem two weeks ago, they moved up a notch and brought home a second-place trophy. The team doubled in size from last week as 24 swimmers attended the meet. Out of 76 event entries, Glasgow scored top three in 26 of them. They weathered eight games in five days on the road—two in Miles City where the Reds split with the Mavericks, then taking silver in the Buffalo Wild Wings Tournament in Billings. When I saw pictures of the Valley Bank minors team with their trophies, I had flashbacks. It seems like just yesterday my own daughter was playing baseball for Valley Bank and her team was celebrating their first-place win.
