  • Another Successful Year On The Milk

    Gwendolyne Honrud, The Courier|Jun 10, 2020

Clouds hung over the area all day June 6, threatening rain and lightning. But the inclement weather did nothing to deter the competitive nature of fishermen who came in from across the region to net the largest catfish on the Milk. Though the weather looked rough, it never carried through on its threats beyond some brief rain. That rain may have helped a number of sportsmen who racked up the catches and the pounds at the 21st Catfish Classic. At the end of the Midnight weigh-ins, it was the...

Voters were asked to renew the 2 mill per year levy, which equates to approximately $63,000 per year, that was passed five years ago, for an additional five years, which will last through fiscal year 2024-2025. Enough voters saw the importance of the continued funding for the...

  • Order Up!

    Gwendolyne Honrud, The Courier|Jun 10, 2020

As the novel coronavirus has raged across the globe, the resulting fallout has emerged in predictable and unpredictable ways. States across the nation issued stay-at-home orders while restaurants closed their doors to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. The economic impact of those closings is not surprising, but as eateries work to reopen and return to normal, some are experiencing odd hurdles and setbacks. “Condiments! Can you believe it?!?!” exclaimed Andi Johnson, owner of Flip Burgers and Treats. She and her husband Jeff Johnson talke... Full story

On the morning of Friday, May 29, she began feeling ill. Later that morning her train tragically hit a tractor, killing the driver. She was driven to the nearest town where she received medical care for her illness. She boarded a bus to the next train station and was going...

  • Better Days Ahead

    Jun 10, 2020

Dear Editor, We are at a good place in history, and we are at that good place because we are facing adversity together. It is sad to think that many had to die to spur us to action, but good times don’t seem to move us forward as a people, bad times do. Getting through the pandemic of Covid-19 requires working together as a people, so people are wearing face masks, not to protect themselves, but to protect others. Recognizing the injustices done to others, exemplified by the deaths of George...

  • Tribute To My Fallen Brothers

We three brothers are the first generation born in the USA, as our parents came from Russia. Our grandpa on mother's side, George Wolko, lived to be 99 and mother, Christine Whittle, passed on at the age 86 and the alcoholic father, John Zavalney, somehow aged to 72. So, longevity DNA was i...

  • Busy-ness, Seeds and Eats

    Mary Honrud, For the Courier|Jun 10, 2020

Another busy week has been competed, with a lot accomplished. First off, almost all my houseplants have been moved outside. The hoya vine and the mother spiderplant don’t go out. I’m loathe to disturb them and possibly lose them. Don’t tell my other plants, but they’re rather expendable. My aloe veras (two huge pots) have been busy multiplying and need to be split, as does my snake plant. Those are on the agenda. There are a couple of cacti from Arizona I should split. One of those is an agave, but I won’t ever attempt to make...

Dozens of kids and their support teams gathered at Home Run Pond at Sullivan Park on June 6 to cast their chances at taking home the biggest fish in the Walleyes Unlimited Kids' Fishing Tournament. Montana watercraft inspection stations have intercepted 13 boats carrying invasive mollusks into the state this year. As of May 30, inspectors have caught 12 boats with invasive zebra or quagga mussels and one boat with red rim melania snails attached to watercraft. All boat owners must have their watercraft inspected when entering Montana. Last week, a pontoon boat that was purchased in Minnesota came...
